If Slack is installed to ~/Applications, users can update the app without special permissions. If Slack is installed to /Applications, users must be administrators of their Mac machines and have write access to /Applications, slack.app, and all files beneath it in order to update the app.

Thanks for the replies. We don't use the App Store deployment because of a conflict with a config profile payload. Since we have the "require admin password to install or update apps" payload configured, the slack helper app constantly pops up asking for an admin pw every time slack pushes an update and our users are not admins. That's also why we install to the user's application folder (per slack's documentation here).

I am using Slack on a Macbook Pro with an external monitor. For some reason, the slack window is on every space on a certain screen. i.e. if I have a slack window open in the center of the screen, then even when I move one space right or left, the slack window will retain its position and will be visible on every space.

I am using mac OS Big Sur. I am not getting any notification for Slack. By googling, I got suggestion to change the notification setting for slack from the mac's Notification preference. But, Slack is not listed in the list of apps in the Notification preference. But it is installed in the application folder and, I am already using it. Any idea?

This is what solved it for me, I opened slack in browser, also had Slack downloaded on the Desktop, from the browser I went to my name and hit /remind me, which brought up the notification in the Desktop app, also following this I could see it appear in the Notifications of System Preferences. Day saver !

Then ask someone to send you a direct message, and click off their name. Then when they message you, a big notification comes through on the top right, click on it and it'll open up Apple's notification center, and selects Slack (which did not even exist in the list before!). Now you can control the notifications. You can now go back to slack, and tell it not to notify you for everything, the red dot still works.

I'm having issues on macOS Big Sur Version 11.6 (Intel Core i& Macbook Pro) and Microsoft Remote Desktop.

I get conflicts when using slack and the remote desktop together. I've found that Microsoft Remove Desktop causes slack to freeze and then RDP also becomes unresponsive. Is there some type of setting or hardware acceleration that could be causing this to happen? Note, I am underneath a VPN for whatever that may mean.

Slack is not starting from the task bar icon. Remedy as follows. Double click Slack and see three bar on the left side corner. Click three bar and click file and click quit slack. Restart again slack the slack will come up.

To fix the timezone issue in Slack, you can run Slack from the command line (every time you want to use it), as follows:codesign -dr - /Applications/Slack.app && TZ=Australia/Sydney open -b com.tinyspeck.slackmacgap

There is a time bug with Sonoma, I live in Australia, NSW and we just started daylight savings. Safari and Mac time is ok, but slack, Firefox, and chrome all show the wrong time. (Time without daylight savings).

I'm using it on a windows 10 machine in chrome. Control-r doesn't seem to work here. Even though I had closed the chrome browser and shut down the machine, when I brought it back up the next day it was still in overtype mode. I had to close that tab in the browser and then open slack in the browser again to go back into insert mode.

As described by the developer. Emacs-slack is setup with a slack Auth token. There are of course a few ways of securing the token for it not to be accidentally either pushed to a public git repo or getting in the hands of somebody else in another way.

Our devs could, of course, open Tighten's slack in their browser. But even with pinned tabs, browser windows still sort of ebb and flow; an individual item in a browser doesn't get its own cmd-tab; and the browser doesn't get quite the same quality of some of the keyboard shortcuts and other system integrations.

Slack is a channel-based messaging platform that is particularly useful for teams or groups to communicate and work together. IRIS manages the Slack workspace for the EECS department: eecs.slack.com.

Drivers are defined in sections in the odbcinst.ini file. The section name specifies the name of the driver. In this section, the Driver property specifies the path to the driver library. The driver library is the .dylib file located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory, by default in /Applications/CData ODBC Driver for Slack. [CData ODBC Driver for Slack]Driver = /Applications/CData ODBC Driver for Slack/lib/libslack.odbc.dylibThe ODBC Drivers section must also contain a property with the driver name, set to "Installed".
