Legal news and current awareness tools are a great sources for identifying developing areas of law ripe for new scholarship. These tools are general in legal topical focus, but there are many subject-specific or specialized blogs and current awareness materials available.

- Available on Lexis. A legal newspaper publishing articles on case law trends and current legal events. Search for “circuit split” or “circuit w/3 split”.
- Available on Westlaw. The Seton Hall Circuit Review publishes articles analyzing important federal appeals court decisions and circuit splits.
- Available on Lexis. Search for "circuit split."
- Available on Bloomberg Law. Filter by Event Type and then by Primary Topic to see a list of pending cases granted review on a given topic.
United States Supreme Court Actions
- Available on Westlaw. The United States Supreme Court Actions Newsletter is a bi-weekly update of recent Supreme Court actions and decisions. Westlaw coverage includes articles on cases where the Supreme Court has either granted or denied certiorari, coverage begins April 2003. Search for "circuit split."
- Available on Bloomberg Law. Circuit Splits monthly tables list cases with topic and summary of issues, and includes a link to the full case report.
