• Mackie MC Series: Delivers the signature balanced sound trusted by engineers with a closed-back design built to last in demanding environments; it trades active features for pure audio fidelity and a wired simplicity that never fails.

• Best For: The Mackie MC Series is the ideal pick for field recording, content creation, and anyone who needs a reliable workhorse that reveals every sonic detail without distraction.
• Best For: The TAKSTAR PRO 82 fits users who want to tweak their audio profile, enjoy deep bass nuances, or need a pair of headphones that doubles as a comfortable travel companion for music and gaming.
The Mackie MC Series, specifically the MC-100 model, is engineered for one primary purpose: delivering the kind of accurate, uncolored sound that professionals rely on in the studio. This isn't a headphone designed to boost the bass to make pop tracks feel "bigger" or to add artificial reverb to vocals. Instead, it uses custom high-performance drivers to reveal every detail in your mix, from the subtle decay of a snare drum to the faintest breath in a vocal take. If you are working on content creation, field recording, or mixing audio, this open, honest sound signature is exactly what you need to make critical decisions about your work.
Durability is another pillar of this product. The design features a rugged construction meant to withstand the rigors of daily professional use. With a soft padded adjustable headband and conforming ear pads, these over-ear headphones are built to be worn for extended periods without causing fatigue. The closed-back enclosure provides passive noise isolation, which is crucial when you are trying to focus on a specific frequency range without external interference. Whether you are an engineer tracking instruments or a podcaster monitoring your voice in a noisy environment, the physical comfort and acoustic sealing of the Mackie MC Series ensure you can stay in the zone.

However, this headphone is not for everyone. Because it lacks any electronic controls, wireless connectivity, or active noise cancellation, it is strictly a wired solution. You will need a device with a standard 3.5mm jack and you must accept that the cable length of approximately 3 meters (10 feet) dictates your movement radius. There is no remote control on the cable to manage volume or calls, and there is no way to adjust the frequency response electronically. If you are looking for a gadget that connects via Bluetooth or offers touch controls to skip tracks while you run errands, this is not the tool for you. It is a precision instrument for those who prioritize signal purity over convenience features.
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 takes a different approach by focusing on versatility and user customization. At its core lies a large Ø40mm dynamic driver with a polymer-coated diaphragm, capable of producing a wide frequency response ranging from 10Hz to 20kHz. What sets this model apart is the inclusion of a three-stage bass adjustment feature. This allows you to physically switch between different levels of low-end punch depending on your mood or the genre of music you are listening to. For someone who loves hip-hop or electronic music and wants that extra thump, or conversely, someone who prefers a flatter response for classical or jazz, having that dial gives you immediate control over the sonic character without needing equalizer software.
Comfort is also a major selling point here, particularly for casual listeners who wear headphones for hours. The ear cushions are filled with memory-protein cotton, which molds to the shape of your ears and distributes pressure evenly. The headband is designed to stretch to fit most head sizes, ensuring a secure yet gentle fit. This ergonomic design makes the PRO 82 an excellent choice for home listening, online video watching, or even using them with a microphone for vocal recording. The package includes a portable storage bag and an aluminum alloy box, signaling that TAKSTAR views this as a product worth protecting during transport. It feels like a complete kit rather than just a piece of hardware.
Despite its strengths, the TAKSTAR PRO 82 has limitations that might deter audiophiles seeking absolute neutrality. While the sensitivity is high at 98±3dB, the impedance is lower at 26Ω, which means it pairs easily with phones but may lack the power handling of higher-end studio gear in extreme environments. Furthermore, while it claims to have passive noise cancellation through its fully enclosed design, it does not offer the active electronic isolation found in some modern competitors. The warranty period is also shorter at three months compared to the one-year coverage often seen in professional equipment. It is a fantastic all-rounder for general use, but it may not hold up to the relentless daily abuse of a busy broadcast studio where the Mackie MC Series would shine.
• Best for battery life → Neither product requires batteries as both are fully wired, but the Mackie MC Series is better suited for locations where charging cables might fail, relying solely on the 3-meter cable for uninterrupted power-free operation.
• Best for sound customization → TAKSTAR PRO 82 wins hands down with its dedicated three-stage bass adjustment switch, allowing you to tailor the low-end response to your preference instantly.
• Best for studio monitoring → Mackie MC Series is the clear choice here, offering a balanced signature and professional closed-back design intended to reveal every detail for mixing and mastering tasks.
• Best for comfort during long wear → Both excel, but the TAKSTAR PRO 82’s memory-protein cotton cushions and adjustable headband provide a plush feel that many find superior for marathon listening sessions.
• Best for portability and packaging → TAKSTAR PRO 82 comes with a dedicated aluminum box and storage bag, making it easier to protect and transport than the Mackie unit, which relies on standard cabling.
• Best for durability and ruggedness → Mackie MC Series is built with a reputation for meeting the demands of professionals, featuring a robust construction designed to survive drops and heavy usage in the field.
• Best for fishing and outdoor use → If you are looking for best open ear earbuds for fishing, neither fits perfectly as they are over-ear, but for best on ear headphones for fishing where wind protection matters, the Mackie MC Series offers superior passive isolation against wind noise due to its tighter seal and rigid build.
• Best for value seekers → TAKSTAR PRO 82 offers a comprehensive package including accessories and a unique bass toggle, providing a lot of feature density for the investment.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the Mackie MC Series for my own setup. As someone who values clarity and reliability above flashy features, the ability to trust that what I hear is exactly what was recorded is paramount. The rugged design and professional-grade drivers give me confidence that these headphones will perform flawlessly whether I am in a quiet home office or out in the field. While the TAKSTAR PRO 82 is a solid contender with its bass adjustments, I prefer the uncompromising fidelity of the Mackie for serious listening. For fishing specifically, the tight seal and durable build of the Mackie MC Series make it the superior choice for keeping out the elements while enjoying your audio.
Both models offer passive noise isolation due to their closed-back, over-ear designs, which helps block out wind noise better than open-back options. However, the Mackie MC Series is generally preferred for its rugged, professional build quality that can better withstand outdoor elements.
No, both the Mackie MC Series (32 Ohms) and the TAKSTAR PRO 82 (26 Ohms) have low impedance and high sensitivity, meaning they can be driven directly by smartphones, tablets, or laptops without needing a separate amplifier.
The TAKSTAR PRO 82 features a headband filled with memory-protein cotton that stretches to fit most people, and its cushioning is designed for long-term comfort. The Mackie MC Series also has an adjustable headband and soft pads, but the TAKSTAR's specific mention of memory foam often appeals to those needing extra cushioning.
Yes, both headphones utilize a standard 3.5mm wired connection. The TAKSTAR PRO 82 explicitly lists a detachable cable in its description, making replacement straightforward. The Mackie MC Series comes with a fixed 3-meter cable, so if it breaks, you would need to replace the entire unit or seek third-party repair options.
