Hello, my name is Mackenzie. If you’re reading this welcome! I am very excited to have someone stumble upon this and read my portfolio. This course really challenged me all semester; I was kept on my toes, which I definitely do appreciate so much. I came into this semester being out of school for a couple of years so I was very nervous about coming back and jumping into a class all about writing. From my portfolio I hope one can see how much I grew from the start to the end of this semester. I hope to continue to keep growing as a writer. I also learned a lot of writing with different types of media included, I have always loved storytelling so it was nice towards the end of the semester to get the story telling in there.
This journey has been long and quite frustrating at some points. Some of the pieces in this portfolio I enjoyed writing and others I did not enjoy at all. The ones that I did not enjoy took my hours upon hours staying up late to try to finish.
My favorite writing was the first one, The Truth Behind The Mask. It challenged me a lot to be comfortable with writing about myself, but also to have to post it online and have my peers read it. My first draft was very conservative and I dodged a lot about my true self because I did not want to share so much with people I don’t really know. Personally I feel like my revised version shows a lot more about myself and gives lot of insight to who I really am. My least favorite writing was the last one, Empathy Challenge. I did not like researching this one at all. The writing process itself did not bother me, but having to research all about what is going on in the world gave me massive anxiety. This one took me by far the longest to write because I kept getting so stressed to research.
I would have to say my three strengths are definitely story telling, I think I have a nice way of going about writing that can actually make people put themselves inside of the story. I also would have to say I am creative. I think my fourth assignment speaks for itself about creativity, the topic itself makes for awkward conversation. I think I did a good job trying to make my point but also trying not to get others agitated while reading. I’m really not sure if this counts as strength but I would say being able to learn and grow.
Overall I am very happy with how my portfolio came out and I hope you learn a lot about who I am, the people most important to me and learn about the world and having empathy.
