Ever since I was a little girl I was always fascinated with the “Arts” world. I would love to draw or do acting or play an instrument, in any way to express my creative mind. Mostly I was always fond of how movies were made. Whenever there was a great movie that I watched I would love to see how it was made. I would try to find any Behind The Scenes video of that film and watch it. I would watch everything from the lighting, the actors, and the editing. I loved it all! I would always tell my family “Did you know..?” questions all the time about the movie. That is where I found my passion for the film magic happening.
It wasn’t until I got into high school that I realized that filmmaking is an actual job you can have. (Also it was neat that the school I was attending also had Audio Video Production classes I took.) With that knowledge I decided to pursue becoming a film editor. I loved taking the class, I got to know so many more amazing things about the filming production that I didn’t know about when I would watch the Behind The Scenes of movies. My passion for it grew more into desire as I continued taking the class. I got to know about not just the filming portion of movies but also the props, script writing, actors, the camera angles, camera settings and SO much additional information to where I felt overwhelmed with knowledge of the movie making magic. In class I wanted to partake in everything I could. One day I was a script writer for a short film. Another I was an actor for someone else's short story. Then I would be an editor for the short film for the school. Although I may have not been great with all things film related, I was good at a select portion of it. But I did not let that stop my hunger for movie knowledge any less.
One of the interesting things about me is that I have what people call a "golden/good ear". Definition it means "To be particularly good at listening to and then repeating or understanding music, poetry, or foreign languages." My mother has always told me, that she noticed about how easy it is for me to hear pitches and tones differently that others, at first don't hear. While I don't have "perfect pitch" I'm able to hear things like: how different languages sound, familiar voices (like voice actors), when a certain music tone is bad or not, etc. Just stuff like that.
Because of this trait I tend to make a lot of music on GarageBand that are all unique sounding. Im not a professional when it comes to making the music but I can still hear the differences. I also become picky to certain sounds used in movies whether its a car screech or a water droplet, the sound has to sound perfect for the picture and scene to me. I know and hear what it sounds like its just hard to produce or find that particular sound sometimes.
