I have been officially started RT cohort classes, and have started a group research project and individual case study.
I am particularly excited to learn about all of the different populations that I will be able to serve as I begin planning for my full semester internship for Spring 2028! Currently, I think I will want to work with older adults and veterans.
Occupational Therapy Shadowing
This summer, I will be shadowing occupational therapists at Trinity Rehab and Developmental Therapy Associates in Raleigh, NC. I am excited to gain some work experience that will prepare me for my MSOT applications!
My Personalized Academic 8 Semester Plan
My plan is to earn a bachelors degree in Recreational Therapy with a minor in Psychology, and then attend graduate school in order to eventually earn a MS and later PhD in Occupational Therapy. I could see myself teaching after being a practicing OT for a while. Currently, my top graduate programs of choice are UNC Chapel Hill and ECU.
My "WHY OT?"
IMAGINE Honors College Magazine: Donor Highlight Article 2025
I was asked to interview Honors College donors David Moore and Darren Whatley and write an article for the 2025 edition of the IMAGINE Honors College magazine. I enjoyed hearing their outlooks on investing in their community and giving back to those in need. I am so excited to see how their generosity completes changes the future Brinson Honors College.
November 14, 2024
I was able to attend the 2024 BHC Honors Global Symposium. I particularly enjoyed the session by Caitlyn Mock, as it was interesting to hear her approach on how to engage on a study abroad trip with a traveler mindset, chasing an authentic global experience and not purely tourism.
The Symposium solidified my desire to study abroad at some point during my time at WCU.
Understanding Others Assignment
This essay was required for my USI class, and I am glad that it was. I enjoyed getting to know my statistics professor Soheyl Anbouhi and learning about his life experiences and lessons. It was a reminder that immense growth can come about through listening to others' experiences, challenges, and moments of triumph. My favorite part of my conversation was the end when we discussed his life motto and how he tried to view the world. He shared this quote: "We judge others by their actions, but ourselves by our intentions." This serves as a reminder to him, and now me, to extend grace and approach relationships and interactions with empathy and understanding.
The depth of connection built into this approach is a skill that I aim to carry into my professional career. I think relationships, good communication, and building foundations of trust are the most important aspects to a happy, successful life and career, and I am glad that this assignment pushed me to continue building those relational skills.
Career Path Paper
This assignment was the final honors assignment for my Communication 201 class my freshman fall semester. In it, I reflected on how communication was an essential aspect of my future career in occupational therapy.
RASC 2025
I was able to atten the Research and Scholarship Conference (RASC) on March 19, 2025. It was a very positive, enlightening experience, and the first true research conference that I have attended. I learned about topics in biology, chemistry, psychology, and others. My favorite was a presentation by Jacob Givens that discussed more environmental and economical solutions to fracking in the oil industry.
