If you guys are willing to try to book in person vs online in an attempt to save some coin I recommend booking a night in Iquitos beforehand and bargaining at the tour booths
The thing to do here is to experience the Amazon river and the jungle
Mostly animal sight seeing and canoeing and fishing on the river
Visit native tribes
I can't seem to find excursions that don't include lodging. Might be because the places to actually see stuff can be a 1-2 hour boat ride away?
CANNOT FLY FROM IQUITOS TO CUSCO; MUST TAKE CONNECTING FLIGHT FROM LIMA
Iquitos is a 2hr plane ride from Lima
Likely will have to take an early flight if we want to do a jungle lodge the same day ( arrive no later than 9am)
otherwise maybe spend the first night in Iquitos town
Flights are available from morning to evening
~$54 round trip and ~$30 one way
~$67 from Iquitos to Cusco
*Note Lima to Cusco: ~$85 round trip ~$46 one way
May Weather in Iquitos Peru
Daily high temperatures are around 87°F, rarely falling below 81°F or exceeding 91°F.
Daily low temperatures are around 73°F, rarely falling below 70°F or exceeding 75°F.
Jungle means bugs and mosquitos
Must be careful about drinking water and food
Jungle lodges are pricey and have limited amenities since many run on solar energy and batteries
can limit electricity use at certain times of day
IT WILL BE HOT

This is in the city of Iquitos
I wasn't sure if this would be worth it, but it ended up being the highlight of my trip and a charity I care about. I got to feed a baby manatee, and I was changed. These are the most gentle kind, sweet creatures. Clearly, this center is dedicated to changing the hearts and minds of the people who have the best chance to protect these animals. I had spent the days before visiting the center in the Jungle and I was really disappointed by how very little wildlife I saw. Compared to another trip I had done on the Napo Wildlife Center in Ecuador, the jungle trip I took 4 hours outside of Iquitos had so few monkeys, birds, reptiles, and critters. We're on a dying planet and the Amazon Rescue Center gave me some hope that there are places and people dedicated to saving animals and educating humans. 5-Stars! Written February 16, 2022
This rescue center is a great place where you can see several animal and bird species together. All animals are rescued and are treated with great care. Most of them return to their natural habitat when they get better. The biggest attraction are definitely the manatees. They are super cute, kind and quiet. Make sure to pay them a visit and support the center with a donation.

From photos it looks very minimal in terms of amenities
all inclusive including excursions
I see this as a one stop shop don't need to think about much
all inclusive including customizable excursions
A longer stay will allow for a visit to a more remote lodge they call their Amazon Research Center
