To extend the benefits of third age learning to an increasing number of senior citizens in the Macarthur area.
U3A Macarthur was established in 1991. It is part of a world-wide network which encourages retired people to take part in lifelong learning activities for pleasure; to bounce ideas; to think; to learn for fun; and to enjoy the company of other like minded people.
Currently we offer around 20 interesting classes in he Macarthur area. We have over 185 members and increasing. Our Members are all retired, or semi-retired, men and women over 50 years of age.
Our classes are all conducted by dedicated, volunteer Class Leaders and are delivered in an informal, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is no requirement for prior qualifications, no exams and no degrees awarded.
U3A is a world-wide, self-help, non-profit, adult, learning-for-pleasure movement. The U3A movement originally started in France at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Toulouse in 1973.
U3A is run entirely by volunteers and draws on the knowledge, experience and skills of its members to learn from each other and share skills and experiences in a relaxed, social environment. Each U3A branch offers programs that suit the interest of its members and the availability of class leaders.
The name U3A stands for ‘University of the Third Age’ but the term ‘university’ is taken to mean a place where people gather together to learn something of mutual interest. Individual U3A’s are run autonomously but there is also a State body - U3A Network NSW Inc - who provide support, assist new U3A groups, advise on resources and help with the necessary insurance and licencing requirements.
U3A Macarthur has two venues -
The Uniting Church, Cnr Allman Street & Moore-Oxley Bypass
Campbelltown City Council Hall, Waminda Avenue
Some classes are also held online via Zoom or through YouTube
There are around 20 classes which run all year except during Public School holidays. People are welcome to join a class at any time during the year, provided places are available in the class. Bookings are required.
Term 1 3 February 11 April
Term 2 28 April 4 July
Term 3 21 July 26 September
Term 4 13 October 11 December
Do you have a special interest or skill that you would like to share with others?
We are always on the lookout for people who are prepared to run an inclusive class of general interest, maybe for a few weeks or perhaps on an ongoing basis. If you would like to become a Class Leader, please contact us either by phone or email and leave your contact details. One of our Committee Members will contact you to discuss your ideas.
