The Mabini College of Batangas, formerly Mabini High School from June 1948 to March 1969, Mabini Junior College from April 1969 to March 1974 and Mataas na Paaralang Mabini from 1974 to March 2002, was founded by a group of educationally-minded people from Taal and Lemery. Actually the idea of founding this school was conceived by Mr. Marciano K. Solis, the real founder of Mabini College of Batangas.
The incorporation of the school was Miss Josefa Kasilag, Dr. Domingo Dela Vega, Mr Primitivo Ilagan, Mrs. Conchita A. Lualhati, Mrs. Aurelia C. Solis, Judge Juan K. Solis, Atty. Godofredo Karandang, Mrs. Vicenta S. Karandang, Mr. Felix K. Solis, Mr. Marciano K. Solis, Dr. Martin K. Solis, Ms. Waldy K. Solis. The Lack of building prompted them to rent the two Houses of Mr. Julian Bautista and Mr. Zoilo Evangelista of Poblacion, Mabini.
The school started classes in June 1948 with 196 students, eight teachers and one employee. Eleven students graduated. On July 01, 1950, full government recognition was given to Mabini High School.
When enrollment starts to swell, the owners were forced to construct a 10- room building in 1952 at the site where it is now. The next ten years was marked by remarkable progress. To accommodate the increasing population, the schoolhouse was remodeled into a two-storey building with 18 spacious rooms on August 15, 1961; from 398 students in, 1962 the school population rose to all-time high 1,477 in 1982.
The first president of the school was Dr. Martin K. Solis. He was succeeded by Dr. Domingo dela Vega, Miss Josefa Kasilag, Mrs. Conchita A. Lualhati, Mr. Felix K. Solis, Mrs. Vicenta S. Karandang, Mr. Marciano K. Solis, Waldy K. Solis, and Mrs. Aida Domecillo (incumbent) in the order. Atty. Godofredo Karandang was the director of the school from its founding up to 1964. Miss Waldy K. Solis was the principal from 1948 to 1964. She was the school director from 1969 to 1981. The principal during her directorship was Mrs. Francisca C. Salazar. In May 1981, Ms. Solis and Mrs. Salazar retired and left new administrators – Mrs. Zenaida M. Calangi as Principal and Mrs. Belen C. Dela Rosa and Mr.Genciano T. Maramot as Assistant Principals. When Mrs. Calangi and Mrs. Dela Rosa retired in 1994, the school board appointed Mrs. Aida Domecillo, Principal and Mr. Genciano T. Maramot, Director In 1999, Mrs. Domecillo was elected President, replacing Miss Solis who became School Management and Academic Consultant Mr. Maramot succeeded Mrs. Domecillo as principal.
In the school year 1969-1970, the Collegiate Department was opened Bachelor of Arts, Commerce and Secretarial courses were offered. Mabini High School then became Mabini Junior College. Miss Solis was the Dean/Directress Government recognition was given to the college in July 1969. In the same year, the very first issue of the Brains, the school official organ was published with Miss Juanita M. Maramot as first editor-in-chief.
Transportation and electricity problems made the continuation of the college for another 4 years a losing proposition. The college was phased out in 1974, the Mabini Junior College became the Mataas na Paaralang Mabini.
Time flew and changes were made. In 1982, the school’s Kabataang Barangay School Chapter, on its officers’ initiative launched a very laudable and ambitions project - fund raising solicitation project, construction to a multipurpose auditorium.
The project proposal was prepared by KBSC officers headed by Mr. Donato D. Matibag, under the supervision of their adviser, Mr. Gencanio T. Maramot, and was approved by Mr. Calangi in November 1981. To make the project legal, the proposal was submitted to the Regional Education Development Officer, KBROC IV. Together with the request for exemption from issuance of solicitation permit under Section 2 of P.D. 1564 to Section 4 of P.D. 1191. The proposal was approved on December 1981.
A full-blown solicitation campaign was made. The funds solicitations were insufficient for the construction of auditorium. This did not shatter the tenacity and foresight of Miss Waldy K. Solis the “if-there-is-a-will-there-is-a-way” school president.
The school borrowed one half million pesos from a rural bank. And the Multi-Purpose Auditorium was built. It was blessed in January 12, 1985
In May of 1991, three additional rooms were constructed in the second floor fronting the municipal road then. They were blessed on June 01, 1991.
Here and there, the instinct for change did not cease. Mayor Rowell Sandoval launched a novel Project-Community Modernization and Beautification.
The first phase of the program was done in Poblacion construction of a two-unit commercial building. Our school did not accede to the plan that is to construct a two-storey twelve-unit building in front of the main building which would cost P6, 500, 500.00. The school board headed by Mrs. Aida S. Domecillo upon advised of Miss Solis, requested Mayor Sandoval to let the school construct the building at certain agreed amount. And the one-storey building was constructed.
The school spent 5.8 M for the project including reroofing of the main building and the electrical installation of the two buildings, flooring of the quadrangle, repairing of the whole building and relocation of comfort room.
The school hopes that in years, and with God’s providence, it will continue to be an agent of change progress and developed among the citizenry of Mabini and the surrounding towns.
Its commitment to value the idealism of democracy, patriotism and nationalism shall remain ignited, steadfast and unwavering; its faith in God shall be the guiding light and the beacon.
