Serengeti National Park

The wildlife viewing in Serengeti is exceptional, making it one of the top destinations for safari in Africa. The park is home to an abundance of major safari animals. You can easily spot cheetah and four out of the Big 5, while black rhino sightings are rare. The park also boasts an impressive array of other predators such as spotted hyena (often spotted in the morning), jackal, and bat-eared fox. As Tanzania's best park, the Serengeti is teeming with wildlife year-round. Huge herds of buffalo, as well as smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, roam the park. Antelopes such as eland, topi, kongoni, and impala are also common sightings. The big cats are easily seen, with lions often found on a kill, cheetahs commonly spotted on the southeastern plains, and leopards frequently seen lazing in big trees along the Seronera River. The Serengeti is most famous for the annual wildebeest migration, which sees over 8 million animals cross the open plains, including more than 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson's gazelles in search of fresh grazing. Predators follow the migration, making for exciting sightings of big cats hunting. Spotted hyena, golden jackal, and black-backed jackal are also often seen in the area.
