In the talk, I would like to introduce how to convert from face-to-face to virtual class. There have been several technologies we needed, and I would describe them. Also, based on the final exam scores and students' feedback, I will introduce what kinds of issues and concerns we should improve.
Princy Quadros Mennella, Assistant Professor, Westfield State University
Teaching lectures remotely via zoom can be incredibly challenging, not only because of the mode of delivery but also because of the loss of visual cues. Typically, lectures delivered in person allow the instructor to gauge student engagement and comprehension, to some extent, by "reading the room". With students turning their cameras off and muting on Zoom, the typical cues utilized by instructors are often not available. In this session, attendees will hear about a course in psychopharmacology that was delivered remotely via lectures to students at Westfield State University. Two methods were utilized to engage students during lecture and gauge comprehension. During lectures, the instructor periodically administered “clicker”- style questions that students responded to in the chat providing formative assessment of engagement. In addition, following each lecture, students were required to submit “exit tickets” demonstrating their understanding of general material covered in the course. Upon incorrect or confused answers in the exit tickets, the instructor had the opportunity to intervene and remediate learning prior to any summative assessments. Lastly, within each unit, the instructor had an activity day, where students were required to solve mini case studies developed, based on the course material. Through these relatively simple approaches, despite the absence of visual cues, students were engaged remotely and their understanding of course content was assessed prior to exams. Anecdotally, students were overwhelmingly receptive to these course additions. Additionally, these approaches allowed this instructor to not feel like she was alone, lecturing to the anonymous Zoom squares on her computer.

Jack Dogg Physics is Professionally written, classroom tested, approachable physics concept courses, online.
MISSION: ACCESSIBLE PHYSICS FOR ALL TYPES OF STUDENTS. We believe in the power of physics changing the world. From the way you look at an argument to the way you look at the stars. It's all connected. The more we can remove the barriers for the 80% of students who have trouble with physics, we believe real societal change WILL happen. We are here to present our online courses and how they can compliment classroom learning.
