Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna is the oldest university in the Western world, traditionally tracing its origins to 1088. • Bologna is served by Guglielmo Marconi International Airport (BLQ), located approximately 6 km from the city centre.

• The easiest way to reach Bologna Central Railway Station from the airport is the Marconi Express, an electric monorail connecting the airport directly with Bologna Centrale. The service operates from 5:40 am to midnight, with up to eight departures per hour during peak periods. The journey takes approximately 7–8 minutes.

• From Bologna Centrale, the Department of Mathematics can be reached by local bus (es: bus line 32) or on foot. 

• The Marconi Express station at the airport is connected to the terminal by a covered pedestrian walkway from the Departures level. At Bologna Centrale, follow the signs for “Marconi Express”; the station can be accessed directly from the railway station.

• By Train

• Bologna Centrale is one of Italy's main railway hubs and is served by high-speed trains, including Frecciarossa and Italo, as well as regional and international services.

• From Bologna Centrale, the Department of Mathematics at Piazza di Porta San Donato 5 can be reached by local public transport (es. line bus 32) or on foot. 

• The Department is also within walking distance of the railway station for those who prefer to walk through Bologna's historic centre.
