Why use podcasts?
The 21st century requires us to be networked teachers: we need to be able to recommend high-quality learning materials to our English Language Learners based on our assessment of their needs and interests and our knowledge of the material that is available. It is our role to find, evaluate, and incorporate high-quality resources into their learning plans.
Podcasts in language learning offer many benefits for language students and instructors. They are one of the most flexible and accessible resources available to language teachers and learners Evidence shows that podcasts do lead to improved listening comprehension, grammar scores, and motivation among English Language Learners; however, research shows that podcasts have not been widely explored as a teaching tool by many educators.
There are many characteristics that make podcasts attractive for English Language Learning. There are many different genres and topics from which to choose. They are portable and can be listened to at any time, from anywhere. Listeners can subscribe to a podcast so that the newest episode downloads automatically to their device.
Here you will find a compilation of well-produced podcast series to support students to successfully reach their language learning goals. In many of these podcasts, the speaker uses a slower pace and simple vocabulary; transcripts, show notes, and/or supplementary learning materials are included. Most use a North American accent.
