The Carson High School M.E.Di.A Magnet is a magnet program that specializes in musical entertainment and digital arts (M.E.Di.A). I entered the program in ninth grade and am in the very first graduating class: class of 2025. I chose the Musical Entertainment pathway. Below are some of the experiences I gained while in the program.
Through M.E.Di.A Magnet, I have had the wonderful experience of being an intern for the Start to DJ Program. The Start to DJ Internship is an internship that makes Dj-ing accessible to all students. Students learn how to DJ and in the process develop artistry.
The Roland DJ-505 is a professional DJ controller, and Serato DJ Pro is a professional DJ software. I have practiced useful DJ techniques such as:
Fade-in/Fade-out
Beat Sync
Cold Start
Mapping
Stem Usage
Sound Effects
Start to DJ is a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Sponsored Internship. In order to become an intern for LAUSD, I had to get the internship ready certificate/badge which included:
Resume
Cover Letter
Job Application
Mock Interview
Soundtrap is a beginner-friendly Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). Since July of 2023, I have familiarized myself with the program by producing songs on it.
Ableton Live is a profession DAW in which I have produced some songs on, though not many. I will be able to gain more experience on this DAW once I have access to the proper technologies; the Career Technical Education (CTE) Music Production classes' curriculum gives students their own Ableton Live code to use personally.
Basic Mixing : panning, automation, basic effects
Song structure
Beat making
Piano roll navigation
Musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) input
The Socal Beat Battle is an event sponsored by Soundtrap and the Young Producer's Group (YPG) where students from all over Southern California submit their songs to be judged by industry professionals. Although I didn't win, with this event I became comfortable with the idea of my work being heard by others and motivated to produce more.
