School Updates

Mr Connelly 

• Thank the PTO for the wonderful Open Day Breakfast. The Staff returns the day before School starts and the PTO always does a very generous breakfast for our Staff.  Thank you!

• Also, Thank you to all the parents that attended Open House.  We do it very early for parents to see the classroom and meet the teachers.

• We had a Very Successful beginning to the school year.  

  • We currently have 296 Students in our school.

  • Our classroom sizes continue to be very small classes and very manageable.  Most classes 16-20 students per class. 

• Our School Theme this year is “Work Hard, Be Kind”

• Our Staff continues to focus on our school work culture.

• We continue to have a very safe school.  Last year, we had alarms installed on all doors.  We continue to have our Security Office, Mr. Dan and the Woodbridge Police continue to make Patrol stops throughout the day.

• Our Stuydents have been outside for recess almost every day so far.  Please continue to dress your students for the weather and students will go outside for recess except for extremely cold or inclement weather.

• Please have all students leave all toys and trading cards at home.

• Volunteer Badges

  • All Parents/Guardians will need a Volunteer Pass in order to Volunteer for any activities during the school day.

  • You must receive a new pass every year from our main Admin. Building on School Street in Woodbridge.  These passes are color coated and are only good for the school year you obtain them in.

Halloween

• On Halloween, Friday October 30th, all students will come to school in their costumes.  All Grades PK-5

• Please no toy weapons, swords, etc

• The Halloween Parade will begin at 1:45pm.  Parents and Guardians will line Ira Ave up to Carson Ave.  Students will walk up and around Ira Ave.

• Immediately following the Halloween Parade students will go back to their classrooms for their Halloween Parties.  Only Class Parents are allowed into the building.  All Class Parents must have their Volunteer Pass.

• Preschool students will have a parade at 10:30am on the basketball court.

• 10/1 - BucketFiller Day

• 10/5-10/9 - Week of Respect

  • Students will be having classroom lessons and discussions about Respect.  There will also be school based themed event days

  • Students will have Fire Safety Lessons

  • Our local Firefighters will be coming for an assembly

• 10/22 - Tiger Buddies Start

• 10/22- School Spirit Day and School Store

• The Welcome Back Breakfast was fantastic.

• Staff is asking for some new Recess Equipment if possible.

PTO Updates

• Walk-a-thon is on Sept 22. at 1:15pm Flyer went home.  QR code for volunteers to sign up.  Please bring bubble wands and speakers for students to walk through.  All proceeds will be donated to Pediatric Cancer Awareness. 

• Our 1st School Store of the Year will be on Sept. 22.  We will have lots of new items and will continue to have new items each month.  Kids love to shop at the School Store

• The Krispy Kreme Fundraiser for 5th Grade Class will be from 9/24-10/6.  A Flyer will be sent home.  The Pick up Date is 10/29.

• Over the Summer we realized that our By Laws were not current and needed to be updated.  We have updated the By-Laws and we will vote on them at the next meeting.  If you would like to review the by laws please see QR code.

• Our Apparel Sale is an Online store.  You will hve the option between Black or Grey Shirts/Sweatshirts.  Our online store will be open from 9/29-10/9.  Once our shop closes on 10/9  it will then take 2-3 weeks for them to process items and be delivered. Items will be delivered after fall break.

• The Boo-Grams fundraiser will run from 10/14-10/23.  Boo-Grams will be Delivered on 10/29

• Our Pocketbook Bingo will be on 10/16 at CMS.  This is a 5th Grade Fundraiser.   $30 Admission. We will have a small Tricky Tray.  Please fill out google form if you are interested.  Doors Open at 6pm Calling starts at 7pm.  Tables of 8 can be reserved.

• Trunk n Treating will be on 10/23, with a  Rain date of 10/27.  We Need Volunteers to decorate your trunks.  We will be having the Pumpkin Contest again this year.   6-7pm.  If you want to participate,  you need to donate a large bag of candy.

• We will be having our 1st Clothing Drive of the year on Oct. 24th. - Please drop all clothes by the flag pole the morning of.

    • The Halloween Party is  after the parade. Only Class Parents can enter.

    • $3 per student for Halloween and Holiday.  $5 per students for End of Year.

School Updates

Mr Connelly 

• The Walk a thon on April 22nd was great!  Thank you to the parents that came out.

• April 23 Student Council & NEHS did a trash pick up.  Received a $400 grant to beautify the campus.  We will use it to make the school beautiful next year.

• Elementary Track Meet - Great Day our kids did great.  We received a couple of ribbons and medals.  We placed 7th overall.  Students worked hard, had fun, and well behaved.  

• State Testing finally ended today.  LA and Math end of April, Science this week.  Great job with attendance.  We had very little make up.  

• Thank you to all the families that have supported our school and PTO this year.  Thank you all very much.  Thank you to all 5th grade parents.

PTO Updates

• Teacher Appreciation Week - Teachers really enjoyed it.  We also thank all the members and families for donations for helping out.

• Flower Sale - Another great Flower Sale.  Thank you to the volunteers that helped the students shop.

• Clothing Drive - We did great!  We received a lot of clothes.  Thank you.

• School Store -  Kids love the School Store.  We are looking to add some more personalized Lynn Crest Tigers items to the Store next year.

• My VIP and me - May 28th and May 29th.  Please make sure to that you send your RSVP back

• Field Day - We need a lot of volunteers to make this event a success.  All volunteers must need a Township Approved Volunteer Pass.   Students will provide their own lunch.  A Sign up Genesis will be sent out for station sign ups.  Teachers and volunteers will be provided a pizza lunch.  

• Color Run - June 12th Friday flyer will be coming out soon with information.  

• Class Parties - email will go home soon.  $5 per student for the end of year party.  The donation Letter must be approved by Mr Connelly.  Beings at 11:30am. Must have a volunteer badge

School Updates

Mr Connelly 

• We donated over 2,000 items to the Have a Heart Food Drive.

• Read Across America Day was great!  We had Police Officers and other guests come to the school to read to the students.

• March 24th- We had our first Career Day.

• Our students also participated in the Kids Heart Challenge in the month of March.

• April 2nd, we celebrated Paraprofessional Day.  We have a large population of Paraprofessionals at Lynn Crest.

• We also celebrated World Autism Day on April 2nd.  Students and Staff wore Blue and Blew Bubbles.

• We have 2 Lynn Crest students that will be celebrated at the Township Writing Celebration on April 15th.  Aria Singh and Matthew Simone.

• The district has implemented a District Dress Code.

  • Students are not permitted to wear

    • Tank tops or tube tops

    • Pajamas - tops or bottoms

    • Footwear without a back

    • Hats

    • Sunglasses

    • Coats in School

• We have a lot of lost and found in the Office.  If it is not claimed before the clothing drive, items will be donated to the Clothing Drive.

School Concerns

• We have to be very mindful of the traffic in the parking lot during pick up and drop off.  Please use crosswalks and sidewalks.

• We can not have any goodie bags for birthday celebrations.

• We also can not have any home baked items for celebrations.

School Updates

Mr Connelly 

• It got really cold really fast and I appreciate your patience with snow clean up.  It’s been a rough winter so far and we have a few weeks left of winter.  The township came by and did a second run to clean it up more.  Kids will be inside for recess.  Thankfully we have enough aides for inside recess.  Even if the temperature rises high enough to go outside we  may not be able to because of all the snow and wet grounds.

• Since our last meeting, we have announced our Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Lori Vazquez.  Our Support Person of the Year is Cindy Pero.

• On December 16th, we had our vocal music concert.  The students did a wonderful job.

• Thank you to all who donated to our Holiday Toy Drive.  We had alot of generous families.  All toys were delivered to St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick.

• January 8th, we had our 5th Grade DARE promotion.  It was a great experience with the different types of dogs.

• On January 22nd, we had a busy day.  We had our 1st Pep Rally.  We recognized lots of students and the kids had a great time.  We also had our Tigger Buddies, where students are buddied up with another grade level.  This is a great program and all Grade Levels love it.

• Our School winner for the Martin Luther King, Jr Essay Contest is Ariana Singh.

• Our Ready, Set, Read program kicked off in January and we had over 150 students participate in all 4 weeks.

Upcoming Information 

• Our after school Mad Science program for 4th and 5th Grade students will finish up on February 23rd.

• We celebrated Valentine’s Day today with some very cute teacher activities and crafts,

• Tomorrow, February 13th we will be celebrating the 100th day of school.  Students can dress like they are 100 years old.  Please make sure they wear safe appropriate footwear and no walkers or canes.

• February is Black History Month and there will be lessons in art, music, and their classrooms about black history month.

• Our Have-a-Heart Food Drive will finish up tomorrow, February 13th.   

• We began to send out Attendance Letters.  The district requires that each student receives a letter after 6 absences.  Students will receive an additional note after the 10th absence.  The State of NJ determines what can be marked as an excused absence.  Even though a Dr Note is not an excused absence, please send in Dr Notes when sick so we can keep track of.  These are good to refer back to.  Attendance Letters will be posted in the Parent Portal once a month on the 15th. Do your best to send your students but if they are sick please keep them home.

• As of today, we have used 1 snow day.  We still have two snow days left.  If we do not use these days, they will be on the Friday and Tuesday of Memorial Day.

• Our School will be holding a Career Day.  Each school has to do a district showcase with a new theme each year.  We want to work on College and Career Readiness.  We are looking for volunteers to come talk about their careers.  You must have a volunteer pass to sign up.

• Valentine’s Day Grams were delivered today.  It was a great success.

• Gertrude Hawk will run until February 23rd.  Orders will be in around March 23rd.

• Our next School Store will be on Friday, February 20th.

• Our Next Book Fair is on March 5th and 6th.  This is the same time as Read Across America.  We will need volunteers to help set up and run the book fair.  The Flyer will be going home soon.

• The Dance Glow Party will be on Friday, March 6th at Colonia Middle School.  Flyers were sent home last week.

• We will be running a Pizza Making Kit Fundraiser from March 3rd - March 13th.  Pizza Kits will be available to pick up on March 20th.

• The 5th Grade Class will be holding a D’Italia Restaurant Night Fundraiser on Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st.

• Our next Walk-a-thon will be on April 22nd.  A flyer will be sent home after Spring Break.  Volunteers are needed.  You must have a volunteer pass to attend.  We will also need speakers and bubbles.

• Also, on April 22nd we will be having our School Store.  The kids really enjoy shopping at the school store and it is a great fundraiser.

• Our next Clothing Drive is set for April 25th.

School Updates

Mr Connelly 

• Welcome to the 2nd Meeting!

• Since our last meeting we have had our 1st and 2nd month of BucketFiller Days. On the 1st School Day of every month is our BucketFiller Day.  We want to reinforce to the students to be kind and fill someone’s bucket.

• On each BulletFiller day we pull a Positive Referral from one of the staff or teachers.  A Positive Referral is when a student is filling lots of buckets and one of the staff or teachers fills out a Postive Referral for the student.  These students get announced on the loud speaker and get to come to Mr Connelly’s office and receive a Spirit Stick and a coupon for a free sundae from Applebees.

• We also had the Week of Respect where teachers had Lessons on Respect and Respect themed dress up days.

• There was also Fire Prevention Week.  The local Fire Dept came and had a great assembly on the dangers of portable batteries and fire safety.

• The District is now providing all schools with age appropriate assemblies through of Guidance Dept Supervisor Mrs. Fancera.

• We also had School Violence Awareness Week.  Our Woodbridge Police Dept had a great assembly.

• We have DARE Lessons every Thursday for our 5th Grade classes.  New this year the DARE officer will also be visiting the Kindergarten Class on Thursdays too.

• We had our First Tigger Buddies, where students are buddied up with another grade level.  This is a great program and all Grade Levels love it.

• Our PTO Trunk n treat was on Friday, Oct 24 and it was a great turn out.  There were some really good themed cars.  This really helps build the spirit.  Thank you all.

• We had our Halloween Parade and Party on Friday, October 31st.  Ira Ave was packed and we had great parties.  Thank you Class Parents.

• Our Veteran’s Day Program was on Monday, Nov. 10th.  We had our Veteran return for the past few years.  He does a great job speaking about his experience.  The young ones sang patriotic songs around the flag.  This is a beautiful day.

Upcoming Information 

• American Education Week is next week beginning on Monday, November 17th.  Students will have age appropriate lessons about how the school is run.

• Marking Period 1 Report Cards will be available on Thursday,Nov 20.

• Trunk and Treat was awesome.  The kids loved seeing so many teachers attending.

PTO Updates

• We have our upcoming Dave and Busters Gift Card Fundraiser going on now.  You will receive more chips to use when you buy a Gift Card through us.

• The Book Fair has run very smoothly.  Make Up Day is tomorrow.

• On Monday 11/17 and Tuesday 11/18,  we will be having a D’Italia Restaurant Night to benefit the 5th Grade Class.  We receive 15% back.

• Cookies and Compliments will be sold from December 3-December 15.  They will be distributed on December 19th.

• The Holiday Shop will be on Thursday, December 11th and Friday, December 12th.  We need alot of volunteers for this to run smoothly.  We need help setting up on Wednesday, December 9th at night.

• We will be hosting a Free Baking with Mrs. Claus on Friday, December 12th on Google Meets.  We will send out a list of ingredients needed prior too.

• Class Parties will be on December 22nd at 2:15pm.  Each classroom is allotted $3 per student for this party.  Please work with the other class parents to make every party a success.

• Our next School Store will be on January 22.  The kids love the School Store and it is a huge success!

• The 5th Grade Committee is looking to possibly have a Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser and/or a Candy Bar Bingo in Janaury.  Details to follow.
