So many Seders are as dull as a piece of plain matzah, but leading a kickass Seder is both highly do-able and super important. There are 14 steps to the Seder. The steps help us retell the story of the Exodus, which is when the Jews fled slavery at the hands of the Egyptians, across the desert to their ultimate freedom in the land that was supposed to be flowing with milk and honey, aka: the promised land, aka: Israel. Retelling the story is also meant to take us through our own experience of slavery and pain and to think about what holds us back from freedom in our own lives. We open the door to peace when we welcome

R.I.P.D. was a different story as we got our first look at never-before-seen footage from the film, which is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name. The film, directed by Red's Robert Schwentke, follows a recently deceased cop (Ryan Reynolds) who becomes a member of the Rest in Peace Department, the afterlife's security force to protect the living from the malevolent dead. Reynolds is partnered with a rootin', tootin' Western lawman played by Jeff Bridges as a sort of cross between his True Grit character Rooster Cogburn and Yosemite Sam.

Reynolds has to not only accept that he's now dead, but also figure out just how being a lawman for the afterlife works. That's where his partner and mentor Bridges comes in. Armed with their blasters as sidearms (which can neutralize the evil dead, no pun intended), these two supernatural cops hunt down their prey in our world all the while seen by the living as an old Asian man and a hot blonde woman.

Not just for the spectacle, but for delivering some good zombie action before it was a commercial craze and for delivering one kickass action heroine after the next. Sure, Alice always has her thighs out for some reason (Alice's Road Warrior garters in Extinction are an all-timer of stupid sexy costuming) and it would be nice to see women with that kind of training dress a bit more tactically, but you'd be hard-pressed to find another franchise that is overflowing with so many female characters who call the shots and save the day. And on a completely shallow note, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who looks cooler than Jovovich does running full-speed while double fisting shotguns.

The Cure:If it shuffles, has glowing red eyes, or sprouts fangs when aroused, either pull out your newest kickass assault rifle or prepare to enjoy the carnal pleasures of the undead. Warning: Could have eternal consequences.

* Entice Me at Twilight, by Shayla Black (Oct. 26, Pocket)

Fourth in the Doomsday Brethren series, Twilight is heavier on romance and lighter on the kickass scale in this story of rival brothers, a nefarious wizard bent on world domination, and the one woman who has the ability to stop the mayhem. Black writes contemporary and historical romance as Shelley Bradley.

This is possibly the single most powerful instance of the Regime we have registered. Their grip on Earth was completely unchallenged. And expansion into space and extradimensional locations was just starting, but going remarkably well for them. Because the Library is obviously closed to them, access to ways offworld was very limited. Through their unethical experimentation, they did discover the existence of afterlives. I think I can guess where this is going. Yes. In 1998, they discovered that the most easily accessible afterlife was Corbenic. Was what? we'll explain later

Hmmmm... Interesting song. Makes me think of several different things at once. I definitely think that suicide is in there and that the message is kind of "Life sucks for me, I'm hurting and I can't make it stop no matter what I do so I'm just gonna kill it". It describes how you can be running through life and either thinking that you're doing all right so long as you keep trying to fight the crap or thinking that you're getting away from the pain, but you really aren't and next thing you know you're running headlong in to it--a wall of problems and shit that keep you from moving forward. When I think about it, I imagine climbing up the wall in an attempt to get over it, work through the problems. Then I get the feeling that the climber realizes they've made a mistake in trying to take this task on yet can't go back now. It's too late to run off in a new direction and so now you're screwed. Death seems the best way out. But I also somehow imagine that there's someone--a loved one--is involved somehow and the singer wants them to either come with him to the afterlife or void beyond or whatever he believes waits for him or is saying to them that they had their chances to make it good, but didn't take it when they should have. Don't ask. I'm weird. I'm probably wrong on everything. be457b7860
