Each year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lynchburg Community Council, the City of Lynchburg, the Lynchburg Area Youth Sports Initiative, the NAACP Lynchburg Virginia Branch, and local partners hold a Annual MLK Jr. Unity Walk to commemorate Dr. King's vision of non-violent protests.Â
The walk usually begins and ends at 5th and Federal Streets. There are guest speakers, tables that bring attention to resources in the city, followed by a walk to the Old City Cemetery with activity stations, a youth history hunt with door prizes, and giveaways along the walks route.
The event is free and open to the community. Following the walk, a raffle for history hunt participants will include prizes such as bikes, iPads, and more.
