Thanks Giving... to be Thankful, to be grateful, to be humble

I woke up this morning thinking about the upcoming holiday. To be truly thankful and grateful is to be humble. One is thankful for some other influence that has given you something for which you are grateful. But, being the recipient of thankfulness means to be humble too as true giving requires a heart which strives to give to others. Perhaps I have been imperfect on both counts, but that is to be human. As we approach the holiday it is my hope that I become less imperfect.

An Acorn "mast" Year

What is an acorn "mast" year? It is a year when the oak trees produce and overabundance of acorns and experts say such years occur every 2-5 years. 2019 is apparently a "mast" year. However, at my house it seems like every year is one and the old oak trees over my house seem to be very prolific. This year it has been raining nuts on the deck when it was or was not actually raining. Today was time to clean up the deck of the first fall of leaves and all those acorns, like walking on marbles. I am reminded of the first Fall we lived here and my daughter gathered up acorns and put them in a bowl. When we asked why, she explained it was to make it easier for the squirrels and racoons to find them. We called it the "racoon buffet."
