Lateral Thinking Puzzles

Below is a list of the lateral thinking puzzles we use to help the middle school students develop their lateral thinking skills. Lateral thinking puzzles are strange situations that you are given some information about and then must come up with an explanation for. In class, a teacher gives the puzzle and then the kids are allowed to ask yes/no questions until they figure out the solution as a group. All puzzles we do in class are posted here- if you want to play along, you can ask your child the yes/no questions after they've learned the solution or email/chat with Ms. Warfield or Mr. Madejczyk for the answers.

October 28th- A man is in dark room having a great time. Suddenly, he stops breathing and can't speak. In a matter of moments his breathing and ability to speak returns to him. What happened?

November 4th- Three men enter a room, but only two walk out. The room is empty. Where is the third man?

Without hesitation or communication of any kind, they immediately arrest the fireman. How do they know they've got their man?
