Lu Yu (于露)

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Data Science at the City University of Hong Kong. Previously, I was a postdoctoral fellow at CREST/ENSAE Paris, hosted by Prof. Arnak S. Dalalyan. I received my Ph.D. in Statistics at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Prof. Stanislav Volgushev and Prof. Murat A. Erdogdu. Before that, I obtained an MS degree in Statistics at the University of Washington and a BSc in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at Shandong University.

My research lies in the confluence of machine learning, optimization, and statistics. I am broadly interested in developing theoretical guarantees that align closely with practical experience in these fields.

Recruiting: I am actively seeking Ph.D. students with a solid foundation in analysis and probability, and a genuine passion for theoretical proofs. If you are interested in collaborating with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. When you email, please include the following:

Please be aware that due to the high volume of emails I receive daily, there may be a delay in my response. Your understanding and patience are greatly appreciated.
