Luminescence's roots go back to a community production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the spring of 2022, directed by Archie Muir starring a cast of young performers aged 11+. The project raised funds for the Norfolk LGBT+ Project but it also revealed something much deeper: the transformative impact of theatre on young people's confidence, collaboration, and sense of self. One of the cast members, Nathan Fawcett, would become a founding partner.
Later that year, Archie and Nate began their A-Level Drama course, where they met Anya Robinson. The three, alongside fellow drama student Sarah Watson, would go on to devise a powerful piece about artificial intelligence called DALE, now available on our digital marketplace, and begin imagining what working together beyond the classroom could look like.
With a shared passion for meaningful theatre and community engagement, Archie brought together Nate - for his experience in A Midsummer Night's Dream as well as his creative insight - and Anya - for her acting talent and strong links to organisations in Great Yarmouth. In December 2023, the three signed a business partnership agreement, and Luminescence Theatre Company was born.
Our aim was simple but ambitious: to make theatre that's brave, accessible, and relevant to our local communities, with projects that challenge and connect one another.
Our first major project, still in development, was Shadows of The Stag, and we began work on this in 2024. It's a long-term project exploring the conservation challenges and symbolism of the Chinese Water Deer in the Lowestoft area. We're taking our time with this, ensuring the subject matter is treated with care and respect.
Alongside creative development, we focused on building relationships and growing our brand identity - reaching out to other creatives, community leaders and potential partners.
In 2025, we made our public debut. Partnering with Lowestoft Town Council for Lowestoft Pride, we delivered their first ever fringe event, Queer Voices - a movement workshop.
We also announced and completed Stocking Fillers: The Christmas Collection, a bold experiment in digital theatre. The project explored how streaming can increase accessibility and affordability in theatre, especially for families and those unable to attend in-person. The collection features three original short plays starring Archie, Nate and Sarah - who last worked with us in our A-Level Drama days.
In August 2025, Anya stepped away from the comapny to begin drama school. Though no longer with us, her contributions helped shape our early direction, and her legacy remains a core part of our story.
We're still writing our next chapter. With projects in development, performances on the horizon, and new collaborations forming all the time, we're excited for what's next.
