To my Lakeview Church Family!!
It has been wonderful so far to be your Pastor! Worshiping with you, sharing a meal with you, playing with your children and grandchildren, just being a part of your lives!!
I have sat in on some committee meetings, met with some others about ideas we have for the church, and I am excited about the future of Lakeview United Methodist Church!
My office hours are typically Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00am-12:00pm and I would love you to stop by and talk to me, tell me a little about yourself. However, you never know when I might be here working, because it is easier to work here than it is at home with three cats vying for my attention!! If I am not here and you need to reach me, feel free to call or text me at 304-415-0863.
I am going to be offering a Bible study on the book of James beginning September 10th at 11:00am in the Community Room and will continue till we are finished. I have not picked out our Advent study yet but will let you know as soon as I do!
One of my favorite prophets is Isaiah, and as I sit here and think about all that this church can do, I am reminded of these two verses;
10As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
The Lord is hard at work at Lakeview, and I cannot wait to see what we can do together in His name!!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Sheila
Start cleaning out and getting ready for our church yard sale, Saturday, October 4th! Donations can be taken to the church and stored in the old choir room next to the kitchen.
5th Sunday Methodist Community Worship
All the Methodist churches in St. Albans have been getting together as one for worship any month that has 5 Sundays. August 31st is the fifth Sunday and Yikes! it's Lakeview's turn to host the service and luncheon. We need everyone's help to make this successful. The worship service will start at 10am instead of 9:30. Please try to save the best parking spots for our guests. We need greeters, people helping direct the parking, etc. After the service, we are serving lunch in our Fellowship Hall. All hands on deck! John McCormick is making BBQ sandwiches for everyone. Lakeview members don't need to bring a covered dish because we are providing the meat and drinks. The other churches are bringing side dishes and desserts. It's always a great time to fellowship together. Please plan on coming and helping our church host the event. Thanks.
Lakeview is going to honor one of the Jewish traditions of Sukkot, which remembers the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert. A temporary shelter is built (a sukkah) and decorated with things from a fall harvest. It's time to celebrate all the blessings God has given us, it's a shelter from worldly cares. We're going to build one right outside the back door of the church, and Nancy will help the children decorate it. On Sunday, October 12th, we will have a Baked Potato Bar with lots of toppings, etc., for dinner, a chance to praise God for all our blessings in the sukkah with Nancy and participate in some fun table challenges. Each table will work together as a tribe and have a great opportunity to build community and celebrate our blessings as a church family.
If you buy ink cartridges at Staples and take them to be recycled there, please consider donating them under Dana Sowards (Kent). He is applying his account to Lakeview Church and donates the money toward buying paper and ink. 304-395-1128 Thanks!
Lakeview provides "Kid Kits" to the Sojourners Shelter to help children feel a tiny bit reassured when their family is in a crisis situation.

Discussed a plan for parsonage maintenance, starting with the roof and then the door and windows. Options for financing the roof replacement include using the memorial fund and then paying it back over time, taking out a loan or seeking a grant from the conference. Wayne gave details on the second estimate on the roof, from Blake Roofing at $8,200 or about $100 less than Elite's estimate. Martha will call Truist about loan options. Sheila is checking with the conference. Wayne will schedule the roof work to begin. Martha will let the parsonage tenants know the plan when a date is set. Motion made to start the roofing project and decide next month how to pay for it. Motion approved. (John/Linda A.) A pledge drive Q&A lunch is coming after the budget is set and other input.

The replacement check from Biddy Ball hasn't been received; practices start Oct. 5 with the understanding that church activities come first.
Pastor Sheila
Joe has received positive texts about the pastoral changes. Sound system is getting better. Met with Barb Smith about worship and Advent and getting a taller communion table. Discussion about using screens during the service. Decided it's a tool to use when appropriate to illustrate a point and an area to grow. Plans to alternate children's message with Nancy. Bob says Nancy needs a cordless hand microphone for the children's message.
Pastor Sheila closed the meeting with a prayer.
