During Lent, specifically the month of March, the Outreach Committee is going to hand out Lenten Calendars to raise money for World Central Kitchen, a group that immediately goes to any crisis situation and prepares emergency food. You will need to lift up the tab covering that day's date and follow the directions. Ex: pay 50 cents for each car or pay 5 cents for every pair of shoes in your house. Hopefully, we will all appreciate just how blessed we are and offer a fun way to give support to those in crisis situations. At the end of March, you should tally up what you "owe" and put a check or cash into the little box accompanying the calendar. Everyone should bring their donation box to church on April 6th and we'll spend a special moment taking the boxes up to the alter to share our gifts with the less fortunate. See Wayne or any Outreach member if you have questions.
The church received a nice note from Lakewood Elementary thanking us for sending Snack Bags to 12 needy students each week. They are handed out to certain students on Fridays because those students do not have reliable food accommodations on the weekends. See Kent or Martha if you have questions or would like to donate.
Congratulations Pastor Sam, Katlynn, & big sister Eloise! Welcome to Lakeview, Edith Jo McMinn! Pastor Sam reports the whole family is doing well and adjusting to a family of 4!
Pastor Sam met with the other Methodist ministers in St. Albans to build community and share ideas. They decided all the churches would meet for one Ash Wednesday Service together. Sam shared we were having a Simple Supper at 5:30pm consisting of soup, bread, a salad, and dessert before the service at 6:30pm. He consulted our resident chef, Max and decided to invite the other churches as well. Their congregations will bring the bread, salads, and desserts. Definitely add the Ash Wednesday Simple Supper and Service, March 5th, 5:30 at Lakeview UMC to your calendar!
As we pray for those who have lost so much in LA, let's revisit this video of the Angel City Chorale.
Our Valentine Spaghetti Dinner was a success last Wednesday. We raised in the $700-$800 range. Special thanks to Jack for sharing his family's spaghetti sauce recipe. Lots of helpers worked in the kitchen, some high school helpers who needed Community Service credits served as waiters, and many of our talented cooks made yummy desserts to share. It was a wonderful chance to bond together, earn some money, and enjoy a delicious dinner. We delivered dinners to any members needing home delivery support.
