Chinese Aid Events Data
This data provides fine-grained temporal data on Chinese development finance project events. It builds on AidData’s Global Chinese Official Finance Dataset with geocoordinates from Bluhm et al. (2023). For this, we reviewed the source articles underlying the original data collection process in combination with Chinese and English language based web search to define precise commitment, start, and end dates for these projects. You can find the full codebook in the appendix of Wellner et al. (forthcoming).
Commitment dates: contract signing or official project announcements.
Start dates: foundation stone-laying and groundbreaking ceremonies.
End dates: end of construction, start of utilization, final inspection.
