At Cornell College in Iowa, our Theatre department produces 3 or 4 shows a year. I get to help by filming and/or editing these productions as a work-study position in the department. I filmed a play called The Moors by Jen Silverman, which I edited. I also edited a full dance show called Body Convos, and I also edited another production of a play called All Childish Things by Joseph Zettelmaier. I am currently in the process of preparing to edit the next productions throughout the remainder of my time at this college.
The other videos that you will find on this page and the film page, even though not part of paid positions, are the product of my editing skills used when I work voluntarily!
I've realized that one of the hardest things for a Christian is keeping consistency when it comes to reading the word of God daily.
So, as reminder and motivation to myself and to others. This video applies not only to people who may not know or care much about the Bible to give it a chance, but also to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, to keep persevering and stay consistent in reading the Word daily.
I once was an atheist until I started being patient with God and gave the Bible a chance.
I came across multimedia art videos on my socials and became very interested in creating one. So, I looked up a couple of different tutorials and guides for how to create a video with this choppy/stop motion look. And what I learned is that it is less intimidating than it seems when you do it yourself, but it does take quite a bit of time, so one has to be patient. My patience led me to draw 216 separate frames for this project.
This was coupled with an idea I had in my heart about constant cycles and addictions, and what better topic to put at the forefront than phone addictions and screen time? Sometimes we may feel stuck and bound by the chains of social media, but it is important to remember that those chains can be broken, and that God is capable of breaking even the chains that seem impossible to us.
This was a video trend that I also came across on the internet, and as soon as I saw it, I immediately related to it.
It is easy to forget that once upon a time we were kids, but it shouldn't be the norm. So, making this video was a complete throwback and reminder that even though I have changed and grown throughout the years, deep down, I am still that little kid. Obviously, aligning all the frames of the sound design and pictures was fun, but the best part was revisiting all those pictures that I even forgot existed.
And obviously, it is important to mention the fact that we are called to be pure of heart and honest as these little versions of ourselves by God.
This dance short, interestingly, started as a project I was tasked to do with filming improvised dances and then editing them anyway I wanted, and I took a lot of liberties with that artistic freedom. So, for these videos, I played a lot with color grading, transitions, and cuts to see what I could do through all that exploration! These shorts were used as projections for a dance show called Body Convos, which consisted of interpretive dances that followed a theme of Body Image. I grabbed those shorts and edited them together to make this other short, which I named "How Silence Talks."
So when I went back home to Puerto Rico for a winter break, I did a Chinchorreo (which is a trip on a bus that travels around the whole island). I visited so many beautiful places that I couldn't resist the urge to pull out my phone camera. Then, I did a short and sweet CapCut edit and added the song "La Mudanza" from Bad Bunny to the video. The song talks about us Puerto Ricans not giving up our island and our culture, because it is our home, and we are grateful for it! This video is not professional or anything, but I added it to this portfolio because it came from my soul. I'm from P-frkng-R!!
Another Puerto Rico-related video sequence!! Yeah, I absolutely adore my island, I'm glad you could tell. Anyways, the college does a culture show every year, and in 2025, other Puerto Ricans and I decided to dance! But I also made the visual track to have as a projection for our dance. The first two songs have pretty standard visuals (we don't want the audience to distract their eyes from the dance), but the last song has an edited sequence regarding serious matters our island is currently facing. Like many places in the world, Puerto Rico is also under political struggle, so I used this opportunity to make visuals that could spread awareness of Puerto Rico's hardships! I gave the video the title "PR IS ALWAYS HERE" because no matter what we go through, we persevere, not only as Puerto Ricans, but as God's people! I hope this teaches you a little bit about mi islita :)
