My short CV
I have been active in the field of applied geochemistry for 48 years. I have a curriculum of studies in both geology and chemistry and I specialized in geochemistry with the late Prof. Harold C. Helgeson, at the University of California in Berkeley. Since 2018 I have been working for STEAM srl, Pisa, Italy (https://www.steam-group.net/). Previously, I worked both in the industrial sector, in the companies Aquater SpA (formerly Geotecneco), Geotermica Italiana srl and Chemgeo sas and as consultant, as well as in the scientific research and teaching sector, first as a researcher and then as an associate professor at the University of Genoa.
I have participated in different industrial projects aimed at the exploration and exploitation of geothermal resources and the mitigation of volcanic risk, both in Italy and abroad (Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Christopher and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda and USA), for different international organizations (e.g., United Nations, European Union, Latin-American Energy Organization, Caribbean Community Secretariat), Italian institutions and companies, foreign institutions, mining companies and electrical companies.
My scientific research activity has been mainly focused on the following topics:
origin and evolution of fluids in volcanic and geothermal areas;
natural CO2 emissions and geological sequestration of CO2;
acid mine drainage and other aspects of environmental geochemistry.
I have been tutor of numerous degree theses at the Universities of Genoa, Milan and Pisa and co-tutor of some PhD theses at the Universities of Calabria, Florence, Genoa, Pisa, Turin and Lausanne (Switzerland).
In addition to Italian, I have a good knowledge of English and Spanish, both spoken and written.

I am co-author of over one hundred scientific publications in international journals.
I am the sole author of the book “Geological sequestration of carbon dioxide: Thermodynamics, kinetics, and reaction path modeling” published in 2006 by Elsevier in the series Developments in Geochemistry (see separate page).
Roberto Cioni and I wrote the book “A Thermodynamic Approach to Water Geothermometry“ published in 2020 in the Geochemistry series of Springer Nature (see separate page).
Together with Claudia Principe and Matteo Lelli of IGG-CNR in Pisa (Italy), I worked on the geochemistry, geothermometry, and geobarometry of the fumarolic gases coming from the magmatic-hydrothermal system of Solfatara volcano, Campi Flegrei. We have written a book which has been published in 2022 in the series Advances in Volcanology of Springer Nature (see separate page).
