going with the flow

A discarded space was transformed with a little hard work and a basket full of pinwheels donated by generous community members. It is amazing what sunshine and color can bring to an otherwise dull day.

"Be willing to accept help. Look what the pinwheel can do with a little help from the wind."

giving better together

Premier Members Credit Union wanted to do something to help small business and to pay tribute to health care workers. They worked with local catering company, Greens Point Catering, to provide lunches for doctors, nurses and other essential hospital personnel. "I never stop being amazed what our community is doing for us," one associate said.

When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed. Maya Angelou

Never too young to volunteer

Benjamin, 12, of Longmont has been a 3d printing enthusiast ever since he learned of the technology when he was 8 years old. He taught himself how to assemble 3d printers, install the software and design models. Benjamin learned about the problem of prolonged use of medical face masks from a family friend physician and that 3d printed ear guards could be a solution. He immediately jumped into the challenge of producing ear guards and is happy to be providing them to hospitals and healthcare workers.

Good neighbors

Good neighbors are such a blessing and that is exactly what the Twin Peaks Village Homeowners Association is to Longmont United Hospital. They recently made a very generous donation to the Covid Kindness effort at LUH.

Here is what they said..."please accept this donation as our humble ""Thank You" to all the hard working, dedicated and amazing LUH health care workers during this very difficult time. You make us proud. You make Longmont and Colorado strong."

No one is rich enough to do without a neighbor. ” Danish Proverb

off we go into the wild blue yonder

What a gift the Air Force Thunderbirds gave to Coloradoans with a flyover tribute to healthcare workers. They even sent an autographed photo to our CEO Tina Johnson as a terrific reminder of their gift. And if that was not enough the Colorado National Guard followed up with a flyover two weeks later! Thanks one and all.

Always ready, always there. National Guard Theme Song

The gift of song and prayer by ABIDE, a young adult choir at New Creation Church, was a comforting sight and sound for LUH healthcare providers.

"Music is to the soul what words are to the mind."

ROUND Pantry

The ROUND Pantry is an incredible mission of Westview Presbyterian Church in Longmont. Every two weeks they distribute donated food to those who need it. At the end of each distribution they have generously shared the extra with local care providers at hospitals and nursing homes as well as other organizations serving our community.

“Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness.” —The Dalai Lama XIV

for all you do...

Who knew that when Anheuser Busch showed up they weren’t delivering beer! Instead they donated 37 cases of sparkling water and coffee drinks to healthcare workers at LUH. Here is what their website says…Anheuser-Busch is here for the times that matter. The moments where we celebrate, defy challenges, dream of the brighter future we are building today– and all the moments in between.

“For all you do…this Bud’s for you.”

Garden of Daily Living

Sometimes the gifts that go untold are the ones that are inside an organization. Such is the Garden of Daily Living. Marie and her son made 300 of these little “gardens” for ALL her fellow associates at the hospital. Along with a little pot and dirt and seeds came this advice that works for all of us.

*For the garden of your daily living, plant 3 rows of peas: Peace of mind, peace of heart, peace of soul.

*Plant 4 rows of squash: Squash gossip, squash indifference, squash grumbling, squash selfishness.

*Plant 4 rows of lettuce: Lettuce be faithful, lettuce be kind, lettuce be patient, lettuce really love one another.

*No garden is without turnips: Turnip for meetings, turnip for service, turnip to help one another.

*To conclude our garden, we must have thyme: Thyme for each other, thyme for family, thyme for friends.

Water freely with patience and cultivate with love.

The Family of Bob Entrup

Bob worked in Respiratory Therapy at Longmont United Hospital for many years. He passed away last year but his family sent a letter from him in heaven to the Respiratory Staff letting them know he is cheering them on from above and that he had every confidence they were doing all the right things. In addition, his sister sent a financial gift to buy a very nice lunch for the Respiratory Therapists.

“Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what.”

Essential Comfort

Gifts come in packages big and small. Over the past six weeks we have prepared Care Packages for departments to raise their spirits and bring a bit of unexpected joy to the workers at the hospital. These Care Packages are all different depending on what friends and neighbors and strangers bring to be included. Shelly and her daughter Lily have made over 50 little bags of essential oils with a thank you note and a rollerball for respiratory therapy and a rollerball for emotional support. Comfort comes in so many creative ways.

"Never stop doing little things for others. Sometimes those little things occupy the biggest part of their heart!"

Magical Mo

A very dear friend of mine lost her husband on March 23rd. They had been married over fifty years and the loss was made more tragic for her because she could not grieve with friends. She decided to put her sorrow into making masks for people all over the country who had been part of their life. In addition, she made masks for over 50 care packages we have given out to LUH Associates so they could have them at home or share with a friend.

“Grief is itself a medicine.” William Cowper

We Pray...

“The seed for this painting, We pray…, came from Denver 7 when they showed teachers who made signs for their students to say they miss them. When I learned my niece, Victoria Sundquist, was a nurse at LUH, I wanted to create an image for the medical staff, especially during this pandemic, which shows how many feel about the front line medical professionals who put their lives on the line for us.”

“We pray for them, we pray for all who have suffered or succumbed to this horrible virus, and we pray for a cure.” Basia Christ, the artist

Spreading the Joy

Sometimes a gift can benefit more than the person receiving it. That is what happened when Meredith and Erik donated 110 burritos to LUH staff for lunch. They were able to support one of their favorite local businesses, Las Palmeras, and feed a good portion of the team at Longmont United Hospital. And although the food was purchased by Nelson Real Estate, the credit they wanted given at distribution was to Las Palmeras!

"To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with."

Mark Twain

You can order curbside at Las Palmeras by calling 303.848.0103 or check out their menu and order via their website at laspalmeraslongmont.com.

Today we had 6 WARM pies to deliver and oh what joy it brought to those in Day Surgery, the Pharmacy, Medical Records, 5th Floor Nurses, Registration and Supply Chain. One recipient said it smelled like a picnic.

“We must have a pie.
Stress cannot exist in the presence of a pie.”

The Big Red F

The Big Red F Restaurants is the mother ship to some of Boulder County's favorite restaurants including Jax Fish House, The Post, Lola's, Westend Tavern and Centro. What a treat to have them bring lunch to LUH staff and they said they "will be back".

"Hurray Hurray it’s the first of May…" I couldn’t resist

Pay It Forward!

HELP US HELP THOSE HELPING US

We at Georgia Boys BBQ have been humbled by all of the support we're receiving. As a thank you, we want to help "pay it forward" and support the First Responders, Medical Personnel, and Essential Workers in our community family.

The Fabric of Her Life

One thing Dana did not have in common with her mom, Jo, was a love for sewing. After Jo passed away, Dana found a lot of fabric in her basement. She decided that making masks out of the fabric would be a nice to tribute to her mom and her love of sewing. Through the LUH Foundation she was connected with a group of women who sew masks and quilts. Today, both Dana and the recipients of Jo’s fabrics are happy women making beautiful things come together.

“Beautiful things come together, one stitch at a time.”
