Dr. Luguang Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Engineering at Utah State University and the PI of the MET Lab. Prior to joining USU, he was a postdoctoral fellow at The Johns Hopkins University and a research associate at Oregon State University. Luguang received his Ph.D. in Biological and Ecological Engineering from Oregon State University in 2020 and his B.S. in Microbiology from Shandong University, China, in 2013.
Luguang enjoys building LEGO sets in his spare time. He also loves meeting and greeting Disney princesses with his daughter. Lately, he’s been trying to enjoy watching K-pop Demon Hunters with her as well. Outside the lab, Luguang is a skilled BBQ chef—check out the photo gallery!
Hao obtained his B.S. in 2018 from Hainan University (Bioengineering, 2014-2018). He received his M.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2018-2021). He has worked as a research assistant at Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Environmental Engineering). Now, he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree under Dr. Wang in the MET Lab.
Hao enjoys Badminton and swimming (badminton most).
Lukas earned his B.S. in Biological Engineering in 2024 from Utah State University. He has performed research in the USU metabolic engineering lab studying the development of synthetic metabolic pathways in bacterial hosts as well as the USU COVID-Wastewater lab. He has also worked in industrial roles at Quansys Biosciences and at WesTech Engineering. He is interested in biomanufacturing and utilizing biotechnology to improve lives and human health.
Lukas loves hiking and camping. He also likes to play tennis and go to the movies as much as possible.
Hi, my name is Emily. I am a junior in biochemistry with an interest in microbiological research. I have lab experience working in cGMP large-scale liquid media formulation, microbiology, and quality control. I am particularly interested in algal research for the bioremediation of wastewater pollutants as well as the utilization of closed-loop renewable energy systems. In my spare time, I like playing pool, tennis, snowboarding, writing music, and hiking. I look forward to using my education to make a greater impact on the world we live in.
Sara is an undergraduate student studying biological engineering. In the MET lab, her research interests include single cell protein production for food and clean energy production. She also has experience working with mammalian cells in an immunology lab. Originally from Oregon, Sara loves spending time in the mountains, whether it be running, hiking, or frolicking. She also enjoys baking and meeting new animal friends.
Hayden was an M.S. student in the MET lab. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science from Biological Engineering at USU in May 2024. Hayden is interested in using microbial technologies for the sustainable production of bioenergy and fertilizers.
Hayden is married with a son who recently turned one. Hayden loves spending time in the mountains, especially on a snowboard. He comes from a large family with many siblings who live nearby. His favorite activities include anything done with his wife, son, and other family members.
Now Hayden is an engineer at WesTech Engineering.
Burak Kilinc completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Uskudar University (Turkey) and obtained his master's degree in biotechnology from the Uskudar University. His undergraduate thesis focused on microbial electrolysis cells (Hydrogen production using cocaine metabolite in microbial electrolysis cells), and his master's thesis was on microbial fuel cells (Electricity production in microbial fuel cells using marine mucilage). He worked as a lab supervisor for 2 years at the PROMER research laboratory at Uskudar University.
