As I reflect on this course, I find that I have multiple areas of appreciation. Starting with rhetorical awareness, I have a new understanding while I am writing, my audience, the context, and the purpose. Before I would just write and hope whom I was writing to would understand. It wasn't until this class that I have been able to rhetorically analyze something I was reading.
Service-Learning Project with CCGA is a great way to give back to the community. Involving students who are trying to learn and grow into a new role as they work towards their degree. As much as I wished the original idea of working with the 4-H would have worked out, I learned a little more about the importance of getting out to vote.
This was also a group project; communication was key to this project. Although not all group members participated, it taught me to move forward with the members I had and complete the best project we could.
The citation has always been difficult for me, not that I don't want to give credit where credit is due, I was just never good at remembering or completing the proper citation. My understanding of citing someone else's work is much better now. From in-text citing to APA or MLA format. I refer back to Purdue owl for guidance, I will continue to utilize this reference.
I don't look too deep into things, especially ads. After reading Kilbourne's "Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt.", I see the dehumanizing of women more often than I paid attention to. As a mother of three boys, I would hate for an advertisement to influence a decision they make. For instance, this ad I have shared leads us to believe that a woman wearing this perfume is only wearing it to attract a man that will become "seductive" with her. Instead, this ad should show a confident businesswoman.
Overall, I have gained a lot of knowledge from taking this course. I appreciate all of my classmates for the interaction in discussions, group projects and for having confidence in me enough to reach out for help with an assignment.
