Lucy was brought up in Kindermusik classes, the Carl Orff method, the Suzuki piano method, and the Kodály method for voice. In addition to her woodwind playing, Lucy dabbles in brass (particularly horn), percussion, bowed strings, harp, accordion and keyboard instruments, including the carillon. Her experiences in the vocal field include assisting with children's choirs and youth theatre productions. She has also completed training in the marching arts through the Smith-Walbridge Drum Major and Color Guard Clinics.
A multi-generational Springfield, IL native, she attributes much of her holistic understanding of the arts to her musical theatre and dance background, having performed with The Muni, HCFTA, STC, PAVE, the Hoogland Education program, TIP, SBC, and SYPG. She has done collegiate training in ballet and general dance through the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in addition to studying at Dance Arts Studio and Springfield Dance. Lucy enthusiastically recommends participation in additional performing arts media to endow students with a well-rounded perspective as musicians and as learners in general.
In addition to her performing and music teaching, Lucy is committed to supporting the arts in the Springfield community in many forms. She is a student of Carlo Van Ulft of the North American Carillon School, having formerly served on the Education Committee of the Carillon Belles, the women's auxiliary group to the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon. She is also active in Springfield area public school music and drama programs in various modalities.
