NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION was a platform for contemporary art and critical debate at The Goods Shed in Canterbury. It showcased the work of 9 artists between September 2004 to April 2005. The project sought to promote individual artists with innovative, experimental and challenging practices, encouraging them to make new site responsive work, and to collaborate with others to create an event for both the artists and audience to enjoy.

In December 2004, sculptor Mehri Honarbin-Holliday presented a site-specific installation entitled ‘An Archaeology of Self’. Above is an image of her sculptures hanging in the space and of Mehri in discussion with the audience.

In March 2005, artist Rupert D. Nelson had a solo exhibition entitled ‘Kaching: Your mission is death’. Images above show his works laid across the The Goods Shed floor.
NFHC ended in April 2005, with my own solo exhibition entitled ‘Science in our lives’ which included film and a range of site specific interventions. Some images from the exhibition are included above and more are on my Miscellaneous page.
As well as developing a network of artists and thinkers across the south east, NFHC established a local awareness of contemporary art practice and issues concerning emerging artists and graduates. It was not a commercial project, but instead a profile raising springboard for artists with promise. I lead NFHC, assisted by the technical wizardy of Richard Cobelli, the expert guidance of Sandra Pearson, and the generous hospitality of Susana Atkins.
