My name is Wendell Luckow and welcome to my portfolio site.
I believe that educational games have enormous potential to impact students beyond what any textbook or worksheet can do. Prior to getting a BA in Mathematics from the University of Colorado in Boulder, I was a communications major at Temple University in Tokyo Japan and then a film major at CU Boulder. I realized that I loved education and teaching math, so I quickly changed my major and graduated. Then I got a job as a public school teacher here in Colorado teaching 8th grade mathematics and digital design.
I believe that to make a successful math education game requires a collaboration of ideas from four major disciplines: math education, game development/design, gamification/motivational psychology, and machine learning/artificial intelligence. After teaching for some time, I enrolled at Michigan State University for a Master of Arts in Educational Technology with a certificate in serious games design and development. I am also taking a number of other online courses to improve my programming and machine learning skills.
