I develop numerical simulations of fluids, magnetic fields, and curved spacetime to gain insights into how turbulent flows behave in the most extreme events in the Universe.
As it turns out, these simulations also make excellent movies!
Neutron stars can capture copious amounts of gas from a non-degenerate star. This hot and dense gas interacts with the neutron star, pilling up until neutrino emission is sufficiently efficient to release the binding energy of the accretion flow. I show below some videos of the density and mangetic field lines in the meridional plane (left) and equatorial plane (right).
Left: Density of a hot plasma projected on the embedded diagram of a wormhole. Bottom: Density of the gas on the equatorial plane on each side of the wormhole throat.
