1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Lucent Quran (“the App”, “we”, “our”) handles information when you use our free Quran reading and audio application. Lucent Quran is an offline-first Quran reader presenting the complete Indo-Pak 13-line colour-coded edition across 851 pages, 114 Surahs, and 30 Juz. The App is available on Android (primary) and iOS.

We are committed to your privacy. The core principle of this policy is simple: we do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data about you. Everything the App saves is stored locally on your device and never leaves it unless it must contact a third-party audio server or payment provider as described below.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Lucent Quran does not require any account, login, or registration. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

•     Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact details

•     Device identifiers, IP addresses, or advertising IDs

•     Location data

•     Usage analytics, crash reports, or diagnostic telemetry

•     Browsing history or behaviour within the App

•     Any biometric data

No data is ever sent to any server operated by the developer.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The App stores the following information exclusively in your device’s local storage (Android SharedPreferences / iOS NSUserDefaults). This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to the developer.

3.1 Reading Progress & Activity

•     Last page read, so you return to the same page on relaunch

•     Daily reading streak count, streak history, start date, and best streak

•     Daily reading time in minutes, reading goal, and historical reading-time log

•     Onboarding completion status (one-time flag, set after first launch)

3.2 Bookmarks

•     Page bookmarks (list of bookmarked page numbers)

•     Ayah bookmarks (list of bookmarked chapter:verse references)

3.3 App Settings & Preferences

•     Screen orientation preference (auto / portrait / landscape)

•     Selected reciter and recitation preferences

•     Translation language selection (one of nine languages)

•     Highlight colour preference

•     Voice commands enabled / disabled

•     WiFi-only audio streaming preference

•     Auto-scroll speed, page-turn delay, and two-page layout preferences

•     Random navigation range (Hifdh practice mode)

•     Loop Ayah count and related playback preferences

3.4 In-App Purchase / Supporter Status

•     A boolean flag indicating whether you have completed a supporter in-app purchase is stored locally. The underlying transaction is handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store (see Section 6).

You may clear all locally stored data at any time by clearing the App’s data through your device’s settings (Settings → Apps → Lucent Quran → Clear Data), or by uninstalling the App.

4. Microphone / Audio Permission

The App requests the RECORD_AUDIO (Android) or NSMicrophoneUsageDescription (iOS) permission solely to support the optional voice command feature. Voice commands let you navigate the Quran, control audio playback, and access menus using speech.

•     Voice recognition is performed entirely on your device using your operating system’s built-in speech engine (Google Speech Recognition on Android; Apple Speech Framework on iOS).

•     The App itself never records audio, never stores audio files of your voice, and never transmits any audio to the developer.

•     Your device’s operating system speech engine may send audio to Google or Apple’s servers to perform recognition. This processing is governed by Google’s and Apple’s respective privacy policies, not by this policy.

•     Granting the microphone permission is entirely optional. All core features of the App (reading, audio playback, bookmarks, translations) are fully accessible without this permission.

5. Internet Access & Network Usage

Lucent Quran accesses the internet only for the following specific purposes:

5.1 Quran Audio Streaming

When you play recitation audio, the App streams MP3 files from the following third-party audio repositories:

•     everyayah.com — provides per-ayah MP3 files for 19 reciters

•     versebyversequran.com — alternative audio source

Streamed audio files are cached locally on your device for offline playback. No personal data is transmitted as part of audio requests — the App fetches publicly accessible files using standard HTTPS GET requests that contain only the requested audio file path.

5.2 WiFi-Only Mode

The App checks your network connection type to respect the optional “WiFi-only” streaming setting. This check is performed locally on your device; the result is not shared with anyone.

5.3 In-App Purchase Verification

Purchase status is validated through the Google Play Billing library or Apple StoreKit on your device. This verification communicates directly between your device and the respective store; the developer does not operate any server in this flow.

6. In-App Purchases

Lucent Quran offers optional in-app purchases to support the developer. All payment processing is handled entirely by Google LLC (Google Play Billing) on Android and Apple Inc. (StoreKit) on iOS. Purchase management and cross-platform receipt validation is facilitated by RevenueCat, Inc.

•     The developer never receives, stores, or processes any payment card details, billing addresses, or financial account information.

•     Google and Apple handle all payment processing, fraud detection, and receipts in accordance with their own privacy policies.

•     RevenueCat may collect anonymised, non-personally-identifiable analytics relating to purchase events (such as conversion rates) in accordance with the RevenueCat Privacy Policy (available at revenuecat.com).

•     The sole outcome stored by the App is a local boolean flag confirming whether an in-app purchase has been completed. This flag is stored only on your device.

The App does not integrate any advertising networks, analytics SDKs, social media SDKs, or tracking libraries.

8. Data Security

Because the App does not collect or transmit personal data, the primary security risk relates to the locally stored preferences described in Section 3. These are protected by:

•     Android’s application sandbox, which prevents other apps from accessing App data without root access

•     iOS App Sandbox, which provides equivalent isolation on Apple devices

•     Your device’s own lock-screen, storage encryption (if enabled), and user-authentication mechanisms

Audio files cached for offline use are stored in the App’s private application documents directory and are equally protected by the operating system’s sandbox.

9. Children's Privacy

Lucent Quran is a Quran reading application suitable for users of all ages, including children under 13 (COPPA) and under 16 (GDPR/UK GDPR).

•     The App does not collect any personal information from any user, regardless of age.

•     The App does not require, request, or accept any personal information from users.

•     There are no social features, user-generated content areas, or communication tools within the App.

•     No data is shared with third parties for the purpose of advertising or profiling.

Because no personal data is collected, no parental consent is required to use the App. Families can use Lucent Quran with confidence that children’s privacy is fully protected.

10. Your Rights

Under various data protection regulations (including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), individuals have rights regarding their personal data. Because Lucent Quran does not collect, store, or process any personal data on its servers, the practical exercise of these rights is straightforward:

•     Right of access — All data the App holds is stored on your own device and accessible to you directly.

•     Right to erasure — Clear App data or uninstall the App to delete all locally stored information instantly.

•     Right to data portability — Not applicable; the App does not hold data on any external server.

•     Right to object — Not applicable; no data processing for marketing or profiling occurs.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App’s features or applicable legal requirements. When we do, we will:

•     Update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document

•     Publish the revised policy at the same URL on the applicable store listing

•     Notify users via an in-app notice if any material change occurs

Continued use of the App after any such update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
