Luca Quagliato received his bachelor, master and PhD. degrees from the University of Padua (Universita' Degli Studi di Padova, Italy) in 2011, 2014 and 2018, respectively. During the master degree, from 2013 to 2014, he spent 2 semesters at the University of Aalen (Hochschule Aalen, Germany) where he also carried out the research related to his master degree thesis. From October 2014 he started his Ph.D. at the University of Padua investigating the influence of process settings and design parameters on the thermo-mechanical behavior of components manufactured by means of metal forming processes.
After the first two semesters of Ph.D., doctor Quagliato spent 6 months at the Material Mechanics Laboratory of the Seoul National University (South Korea), under the guidance of the late Prof. Kwansoo Chung, researching on slip line theory applications on the radial-axial ring rolling process for the analytical estimation of the material plastic flow during the process. During the same period he also acquired more experience on materials testing and fracture analysis. During the time at SNU, doctor Quagliato established a research collaboration with Prof. Naksoo Kim of Sogang University (South Korea) and promoted a 5 years Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Padua and Sogang University for mutual students exchange and joint research collaboration. Thanks to this MoU he could spend the last 3 semesters of his Ph.D. at the Net Shape Manufacturing Laboratory of Sogang University under the guidance of Prof. Naksoo Kim and expand his research activities to multi-material structures and wear/fatigue modeling, while also expanding and completing the research related to his Ph.D.
On March 2018 doctor Quagliato successfully defended his Ph.D. presenting the work entitled "Development of procedures and analytical-numerical models for incremental forming processes of metallic materials", for which he also received a Ph.D. thesis award at the memory of the late Prof. Paolo Lazzarin in September of the same year.
After the graduation, he continued working as a Post-Doc at the Net Shape Manufacturing Laboratory of Sogang University and became Research Professor from July 2018. During the following 3 years, doctor Quagliato expanded his research activities to include:
Design strategy and manufacturing process for multi-material structures,
Finite volume method (FVM) - Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation architecture to investigate material-product-process interactions for short fibers reinforced materials;
Machine learning application applications for process optimization applied to metal forming processes.
From June 2021 doctor Quagliato is working, as a Research Professor at Ewha Womans University, and from July 2022 he is in charge of lab management and student guidance for the Biomedical Materials and Mechanics Lab with the following research interest:
Machine learning-based tools development for product/process design and optimization
Additive manufacturing process development for composite materials
Lightweight and high-performance optimal design and manufacturing methodologies
