We support the theatre department at Lee's Summit West. We run the concessions for all the mainstage shows, the Repertory Theatre performances, the student-directed one acts, and on occasion, even a summer show. We organize fundraisers. We provide volunteers for Titans of Tomorrow, the car washes, and anywhere else where it's needed. We create and organize bravo bags for all the mainstage shows. We grant scholarships (fees, thespian conference, seniors), run errands, provide meals for the cast and crew on certain mornings/evenings, purchase trophies for the awards show, decorate for the Cappies evenings, and so, so much more!
West Side Stage is the student-led theatre club. It's a super fun organization that holds events, attends lots of local theatre, and is just a cool and inclusive club for high school students. The LSW Theatre Booster Club is also a super fun organization . . . but for the adults. It's guardians of LSW students and community members that wish to support theatre!
Every school year, there are four mainstage productions (a fall play, a fall musical, and two winter/spring plays.) In addition, there are shows performed by the Repertory Theatre and IB Theatre classes, student-directed one acts, and hilarious shows produced by the Coffee Break Improv Team. For the 2025-2026 school year, click here to see performance dates.
Kind of. Anyone working concessions will be allowed to see that particular performance for free. (This is ONLY for people who have signed up to volunteer. It does not include friends and family of the volunteer.) For shows that are general admission, volunteers will be allowed to save seats before the house opens - as long as the show is not sold out. If the show is sold out, you will sit in seats placed for volunteers which may be off on the side. If you wish to have a guaranteed specific seat, purchase a ticket for that performance.
The musical is the only show that has reserved seats. Volunteers that work concessions for a musical performance, will be given an open seat, or in the case of a sell-out, a chair near the side. Again, if you want a specific seat, you will still need to purchase a ticket.
The Kansas City Cappies is a writing and awards program that trains high school theatre and journalism students to be expert writers, critical thinkers, and leaders. Students from participating high schools apply to be critics. The critics attend various performances and review them. At the end of the school year, there is an awards gala. The booster club helps by decorating a room specifically for these critics and providing snacks. You can find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/KansasCityCappies
Titans of Tomorrow is an event for younger thespians. It's a fun half-day camp for kids in K-5th grade. The Repertory Theatre and IB Theatre classes create different stations to teach the campers about acting, crewing, and improv. The booster club provides snacks and support.
Every year, the booster club awards $500 scholarships to select seniors. In the spring, a multi-step application will be posted. It involves filling out an application, submitting a resume, writing a short essay, and providing a teacher recommendation. Board members who do not have an applying student, will review the applications and announces the recipients and the end of the year theatre celebration. We are very proud to award these scholarships!
We also provide scholarships for cast fees and for participation in the Missouri Thespian Conference. Any student needing financial aid for these events should see Mr. Schnake.
Patches celebrate participation in a mainstage show, the improv troupe, or certain classes, such as Repertory Theatre. Patches are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL (these are not the "letters") and can be saved as souvenirs, sewn onto a letter jacket, or kept in a box. "Rockers" are smaller patches for to signify another year of the particular patch it rests under (they save space on letter jackets.) Orders are placed in January/February and patches are (ideally) handed out at the awards show in May.
Mainstage shows have an early morning breakfast provided by the booster club. This is usually on the Friday of performances. (Check the calendar for exact dates.) The show company gather before school and eat on the stage. It's fun!
