Local Advocacy
Your years of service count with us!
LSNEA advocated for changes to LSR7 Board Policy GCBA, Professional Staff Compensation. We advocated that all teachers be placed on the salary schedule relative to their years of service. In May 2023, the LSR7 School Board agreed with LSNEA and voted unanimously to change Board Policy GCBA. This action reflects an NEA core value, professionalism, by expecting "the status, compensation, and respect due all professionals."
This was accomplished though another core value, collective action, the belief that individuals are strengthened when they work together for the common good. Some of the collective actions steps taken included: our chapter president and members speaking at multiple school board meetings, school board election endorsements, and advocating for changes in TEAM LS.
School Board Elections
LSNEA members are Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. The issues that unite us are protecting children and improving public education. LSNEA provides questionnaires to all school board candidates. Members of LSNEA then provide endorsement recommendations.
2023 Board Members Dr. Kamile Johnson and Ms. Erica Miller were endorsed by LSNEA for their strong commitment to public education and value of education professionals. One of Board Members Johnson and Miller's first actions was to vote to fairly compensate teachers for all years of service.
State Advocacy
Missouri NEA has a political action committee (PAC) to pool funds that are used to help elect candidates to public office who support the interests of children and public education as well as support MNEA’s Legislative Platform and positions. Donations to MNEA PAC are used in both state wide and local elections.
