Mr. Shuda has taught at LSE since 2014 where he currently serves as Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chair.

Mr. Shuda attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree.  He was also selected as the Most Outstanding Bandsman within the UNL Band Department in 2012. He then moved to Norman, OK and earned his Master's Degree from the University of Oklahoma in Music and Percussion Performance. At OU, Mr. Shuda served as a Graduate Assistant and at the conclusion of his tenure, was awarded the prestigious Ronald J. Dyer award for his outstanding contributions to the OU Percussion Studio.

Under his direction, ensembles at LSE have performed at multiple state conventions, and he is a recipient of the Jack Snider Outstanding Young Band Director Award from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association. Mr. Shuda is proudly endorsed as an educational artist for Vic Firth and remains active throughout the Midwest as a performer, arranger, and clinician. He is a proud husband to Bonnie, and father to Walter (3 1/2) and Peter (2).

Mr. Brown is an Assistant Band Director at Lincoln Southeast High School. Mr. Zachary Brown holds a Music Education degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Master of Music from UNL. Mr. Brown is originally from Sioux Falls, SD.

Mr. Brown is currently teaching at: Kahoa, Morley and Mickle MS as well as LSE. Mr. Brown's primary instrument is the horn and he is an active member of the Lincoln Civic Orchestra. 

Bryan Canonigo is a versatile, award-winning saxophonist, woodwind specialist, educator, and recording artist from Toronto, Canada. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Humber College, where he studied and performed with jazz greats including Michael Brecker, Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, and Clark Terry. For a decade, Bryan served as a musical director and woodwind performer for Carnival Cruise Lines, sharing the stage with artists such as John Mayer, New Kids on the Block, Lyle Lovett, Bernard Purdie, The Barenaked Ladies, and Patti LaBelle.

He completed a master’s degree in classical saxophone performance and an Artist Diploma in multiple woodwinds at Columbus State University, where he also served as a jazz graduate assistant and instructor for the Schwob Summer Music Festival.

Currently pursuing a doctorate in jazz studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Bryan has directed the UNL Big Band and several jazz combos, and remains active as a graduate teaching assistant. He is deeply involved in the Lincoln music scene, recently performing with the Nebraska Repertory Theater and volunteering across Lincoln Public Schools. Bryan is excited to return to Lincoln Southeast as part of the staff for this summer’s band camp.

Courtney Clark is a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education. 

While at UNL, she student taught fifth-grade band at Cavett, Beattie, and Saratoga Elementary Schools. As a performer, Courtney participated in the Cornhusker Marching Band, UNL Symphony Orchestra, and UNL Wind Ensemble. She has also performed with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and Nebraska Brass.

Daniel Oshiro hails from Honolulu, Hawaii and currently teaches band and strings in Lincoln, NE. Mr. Oshiro’s has teaching experience in elementary, secondary, and university levels. Prior to teaching in Lincoln, Mr. Oshiro taught in Honolulu, HI and Austin, TX.

In addition to his teaching experience, Mr. Oshiro has an extensive performance history with performances across the U.S. He is a regular performer in local groups and contributes to professional organizations such as the Midwest Clinic, the North American Saxophone Alliance, Nebraska Music Educators Association, and the Texas Music Educators Association.

Mr. Oshiro has long-standing passions for music, cooking, tennis/pickleball, and video games. When he visits home, he loves to play volleyball, hike at local trails, and visit his favorite beach spots.

Ian Rutherford is an adjunct professor of music at Doane University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Union Adventist University, where he teaches applied low brass, brass pedagogy, music history, and ensembles. He has also taught at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Concordia University. Ian earned his DMA in trombone performance from UNL in 2023, following a master’s degree in 2020, and holds a BME from Augustana University. He previously served as the 5–12 Band Director at West Sioux Public Schools in Hawarden, Iowa.

An active freelance trombonist and clinician, Ian has performed with numerous orchestras throughout the Midwest, including the Omaha, Des Moines, Sioux City, Lincoln’s, and South Dakota Symphonies. He leads and arranges for the trombone ensemble Live and Let Slide and performs as a vocalist and trombonist with several big bands and rock groups. Ian has shared the stage with artists including Ben Folds, Danny Elfman, John Faddis, and Aaron Diehl.

Frank Stroup is a Lincoln native and 2014 graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and music technology. After student teaching at Lincoln Southeast High School, he earned a master’s degree in music and trumpet performance from the University of Maryland in 2017, studying trumpet with Chris Gekker.

Frank returned to Nebraska in 2017 and taught instrumental music in Omaha and Lincoln Public Schools for six years. He also joined the 43rd Army Band of the Nebraska Army National Guard, where he currently serves as trumpet/cornet section leader for the concert band and ceremonial brass quintet. In 2021, he was named Nebraska’s Young Music Educator of the Year by the Nebraska Music Education Association.

Frank now works with Travel with Barb, helping students and teachers bring group travel plans to life. He remains active as a trumpet teacher, performer, and supporter of the arts in Nebraska.

Anna Scott, originally from Broomfield, CO, is a multidisciplinary artist and educator. A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, she earned her BFA in Musical Theatre in May 2025. Anna’s background is rooted in her extensive color guard experience, where she previously served as Guard Captain for her hometown programs.

Based in Lincoln, Anna balances her time as a local theatre choreographer, a "party princess" performer, and an elementary childcare leader at the Belmont Recreation Center. When she isn't spinning or on stage, Anna enjoys drawing, revisiting the world of Harry Potter, and snuggling with her emotional support bunny, Juno.

Wyatt graduated from LSE in 2015 and has assisted in instructing the Marching Knights percussion section since then. Wyatt was a member of the front ensemble at LSE and also served as a section leader during his last two years. He was also a member of the Cornhusker Marching Band for a year. 

Wyatt is an assistant manager at Runza and enjoys playing piano in his free time.

Percussion Instructor - Battery

Mr. Halsey is new to Southeast High School this year. He is currently studying Music Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with an emphasis in Percussion, and is originally from Omaha. Mr. Halsey is an alum of Millard West, where he played in marching band for 4 years. He is currently a member of the Cornhusker Marching Band and plays snare within that ensemble. Other ensembles he is currently in or has played in while at UNL are the UNL Percussion Ensemble, Nebraska Steel, UNLindoor, Varsity Singers, and Symphonic Band. We're excited to welcome Mr. Halsey to the LSE Band Family!

Mr. Metteer served as Director of Bands at Southeast High School from 1995 to 2025. During his 30-year tenure, the LSE Band Program achieved remarkable success, including featured performances at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association (NSBA) and Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA) conventions by the Wind Ensemble, Jazz I, and Percussion Ensemble.

In addition to his work with student ensembles, Mr. Metteer played a key role in organizing and hosting two annual NSBA marching contests, helping to elevate the school's reputation in the marching arts and generate significant funds that our students benefit from to this day. He continues to maintain a strong and supportive connection with the LSE Band Program.

Mr. Metteer is a certified adjudicator in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri, and is active as a clinician and guest conductor throughout the region. A former board member of the Nebraska Bandmasters Association, he remains an engaged and respected member of the music education community.
