Civil marriages may be officiated by any sitting judge. Contact information for all judges can be found in the Law Directory, located at City Hall, Mission Row Police Station, Paleto City Hall and Paleto Police Station.
In addition, a selected group of individuals outside the judiciary have been authorized to officiate civil marriages.
A list of authorized officiants can be found at the bottom of this page.
Civil marriages may take place at City Hall, any church or at another location agreed upon by the officiant and the parties to the marriage.
For a marriage to be legally valid, two witnesses must be present to witness the ceremony and sign the marriage certificate. Where necessary, the officiant may serve as one of the required witnesses.
Marriage may only take place with the free and voluntary consent of both parties. No person may be compelled or pressured into marriage against their will.
A person may only be legally married to one spouse at any given time. Individuals who are already married must have their previous marriage legally dissolved before entering into a new marriage.
Upon marriage, either party may change their surname without charge where the change is connected to the marriage, including taking their spouse's surname or combining both surnames. Further information can be found in the Name Change Policy.
