Genesis Gradebook Directions -- For Point Based Gradebook
Logging On
- Go to http://genesis.lrhsd.org(Add link to your Favorites at home)
- Type your username and password
- The screen should open directly to your Gradebook.

Viewing Individual Student Reports
- Click on the Gradebook tab.Click on the Class Rosters tab.Make sure you are in the marking period tab that you want to look at.
- Click on the student’s name.
Viewing Individual Student Demographics
- Click on the Gradebook tab.Click on the Class Rosters tab.Make sure you are in the marking period tab that you want to look at.
- Click on the student’s ID number.
Accepting “New” students and hiding “dropped students”
- Click on the Gradebook tab.Click on the Class Rosters tab.Make sure you are in the marking period tab that you want to look at.
- Click on the Active Students link above the names on your gradebook.
- Accept students to get rid of the “new” flag next to their names in your gradebook by clicking the box under “Accepted”.(To accept all of the new students, click the “Accepted” column header)
- To hide dropped students (They will show up in red), uncheck the box in the student’s row in the “Show” column.
- Be sure to hit SAVE at the very bottom.
Changing a student’s name in your gradebook or giving them a unique “code number”. (optional)
- Click on the Gradebook tab.Click on the Class Rosters tab.Make sure you are in the marking period tab that you want to look at.
- Click on the Active Students link above the names on your gradebook.
- Change the student’s name in your gradebook by editing the student’s “Gradebook Name”.Don’t worry - It will not change their official district name – it is only for your use.
- Give the students a unique code number by changing the “Gradebook ID” which defaults to their student number.You can also use this line to put their book # in.It can only have numbers – no letters.
- Be sure to hit SAVE at the very bottom.
- Click on Class Rosters tab to see the changes.
Posting Grades (Replaces Bubblesheets – Sends grades to District)
Instead of Bubble sheets we will now Post Grades from Genesis.When you are notified that you can post grades do the following: (You can only post grades during the times it allows you – i.e. following a marking period.You will be notified when this will be.)
- In Quick Links, click on Post Grades.
- A screen will come up showing you your students and their current grades according to your gradebook.
- You have the opportunity to tweak grades and add comments (for interims) before sending your grades to the district if you wish.
- We will send you more detailed instructions on how to do this during the first marking period.
Using Genesis Gradebook outside of the buildings
(Always be sure to Sign out of Genesis and keep passwords secure)
Windows Users:
- You must be using Windows XP or higher to get full functionality.Other versions of windows will work for some things and not with others.
- Your screen resolution must be set at 1024x768 or higher.(Control Panel>Display>Settings>Screen Resolution.
Mac Users:
- You must be using the Firefox Browser & OS X.
- Adding an Assignment (See Attachment #1)
- Click Add Assignment in Quick Links in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
- See attached screenshot.Fields marked with a red asterisk must be filled in.The others are optional.
- *Assignment Name is the long version of your assignment name (i.e. Chapter 4 Test: Rocks and Minerals)
- *Column Header is the short version of your assignment name to save space in the gradebook (i.e. Ch4test)
- Strip Description is optional and could include anything you like (i.e. Multiple choice test with 50 questions.)
- Assigned Date and Due Date will default to today’s date.You can change them by clicking the date itself or clicking the calendar box next to it.
- *Category – you must pick a category by clicking the down triangle at the right of the box.In a points gradebook, it doesn’t really matter what category you pick.
- *Max Possible Score is the number of points the assignment is worth. It defaults to 100.Change it by clicking on the box and typing a new number.
- *For Parents Module – If you want the parents to be able to see their child’s grade for this assignment on their screen when they log in, click the Yes buttonotherwise it will default to No.(The Parent Module won’t be active until 9/2007)
- *Grade Type – You will probably want to choose Numeric for a points based gradebook (i.e. 95, 87, 100, etc.)However you can experiment with the other types of grades if you wish.The CIS teachers will run Tech Tips sessions on the advanced features of Genesis Gradebook to help with this.Watch for emails.
- Assignment Set – No need to do anything.
- *For Gradebook – If you want it in your gradebook keep this on Yes.
- Course/Section – The assignment will be placed in whatever class it lists but you have the option of checking the boxes of your other sections if you want to add the same assignment to those classes as well.(i.e. if you gave the same chapter 4 test to all of your classes or in three of your classes)
- Add assignment after this? – Check the box if you want to add another assignment right now.
- Hit SAVE.If you don’t hit save, nothing will happen.
