Overview

What is it: The Sika are an ancient and curious group of non-physical entities originating from a higher dimension that transcends space and time. Unlike physical beings, they lack a permanent corporeal form and instead create a physical presence by harnessing elements from their surroundings — earth, air, water, and light. Their existence in a dimension devoid of separate perceptions of space and time makes them an enigma to human understanding, as these two concepts are intertwined for them.

Abilities and Materialization

Description: One of the key abilities of the Sika is their capacity to "deform" themselves. This lack of a fixed physical form allows them to adapt to various environments by materializing fitting shapes and structures from the natural elements found in the world. They exhibit a unique versatility in adopting temporary, advantageous forms through combinations of animal traits such as wings, fins, scales, and claws, effective for exploring diverse terrains.

Presence of Bay and Lak

Notes from Explorers: Currently, only two Sika entities, Bay and Lak, exist within Area 8 — a group of small islands also inhabited by humans. The origin story of how Bay and Lak arrived at these islands is shrouded in mystery, remaining undocumented. They are locked in a peculiar lifelong pursuit, tracing each other across the archipelago without ever actually meeting. Residents of these islands view Bay and Lak as legendary figures, although reverence does not extend to worship, with those who deify them shunned by the broader community.

Interaction with Humans

Details: Human populations in Area 8 are scattered across small communities, none exceeding a thousand people. These humans occasionally interact with Bay and Lak but do so under the view that the Sika are fascinating yet mythic beings. While mainstream human society does not venerate them as divine entities, their unique nature does command a certain level of respect and curiosity.

The Sigbins

Details: Both Sika are accompanied by familiars known as sigbins. Like the Sika, sigbins possess the ability to change form in response to their companions' needs and environments. Their variability is somewhat more limited, toggling between having four limbs or transforming those limbs into functional appendages conducive to their current surroundings. This adaptability forms a synergistic relationship, enhancing their explorative abilities and ensuring their survival in the diverse landscapes of Area 8.
