Our regular meeting opened at 7.00 pm with a welcome from President Garry. It was great to welcome our visitors, Ian Chappell, Gayle, and Stuart Cole, our guest speaker Susan Templeman MP and Paul Rogers from the Rotary Club of Kurrajong North Richmond. Amanda Roots proposed a toast to the people of Australia.

Peter Agar advised us that yesterday was Independence Day in Equatorial Guinea on the west coast of Africa. The country gained independence from Spain in 1968. The capital city is Malabo. Our toast was to the Rotary Club of Malabo.

President Garry thanked those who have been making voluntary contributions to the Administration Account thus allowing participants to be part of the jackpot draw. There were 44 people who have made the contribution and the jackpot is now worth $665.00

We have been advised by the Emu Sports Club that we will be able to start our meetings at the club on Tuesday 7th of December. Bob Aitken and I will have a meeting with Andrew Gardner next week to talk about our restarting face-to-face meetings.

Pamela Noal advised that the Rotary Recycles shop will reopen on Monday the 18th of October. Please check out their new Facebook page for details.

Tonight was our "Hat Day" and an opportunity to "lift the lid" on mental health. Everyone was encouraged to support the Australian Rotary Health fund directly with a donation, or donate when we are back face to face.

Susan Templeman MP gave a brief talk about rapid antigen self-testing for covid 19 and thanked us all for keeping together and wished us good luck with our issues regarding the markets and offered to assist in any way that she could to reach a positive outcome.

Vocational Director Bob Aitken introduced Paul Rogers who has put together the hypothetical for tonight's meeting.

Paul introduced the two teams

  • Software and AI Unlimited -

Carolyn "Zhiang Che" Fitzpatrick - Team Leader

Garry "Joe Bloggs" Ryan - Supervisor and sometime golfer

Frank "Mohammad Abdullah" Behl - Senior Manager

  • Pigs R Us

Kirsten "Money Bags" Velthuis - The accountant

Stan "The Man" Noal - The practical primary producer and pig farmer

Gavin "the Big Boss" Reid - The ideas man

The scenario was that Pigs R Us is a commercial pig farm that is expanding and wants to take over the land currently occupied by the Leonay Golf Club. The Software and AI Unlimited team was meant to try to sell their services to Pigs R Us at any cost. Some very good-natured banter ensured and some funny exchanges occurred. Some good laughs and a great night was had by all. The decision of the meeting was that the result was a draw. Thanks, Paul for putting together a great night's entertainment.

The lucky person who was drawn from the Jackpot pack of cards was Bob Aitken. Sadly, he did not pick the Joker but does win a scratchy.

Gayle Cole was the winner of the lucky draw scratchy. Next Tuesday, on the 19th of October, we have another guest speaker who will be named closer to the date. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you online next week.
