Afternoons In The Arts

Afternoons in The Arts (AITA) is a FREE after-school enrichment program for Lowell Public School students in grades 5 - 8. We are excited for our third year of offering students at least six different programs, which fully encompass all areas of fine arts, including: visual art, strings, band, choral music, musical theater, dance, and digital and mixed media. In collaboration with our 21st Century Extended Day programming, Afternoons In The Arts is a great way for young artists to use their creativity while discovering and experiencing the arts in a fun atmosphere.

What Programs Are Offered?

🎻STRINGS*

This is a performance-based program Students enrolled in strings will receive group and ensemble-based instruction on a stringed instruments of their choice. Instruments offered are violin, viola, cello, and double bass. * Certain instruments are limited in availability and will be assigned accordingly.

🎷BAND:

Students will received both group and ensemble-based instruction on an instrument of their choice. Instruments offered are: Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion. This is a performance-based program. * Certain instruments are limited in availability and will be assigned accordingly.

🎤CHORUS:

Students enrolled in this program will be introduced to a variety of music. Students will given opportunities to perform throughout the school year. Keep checking our website for more information regarding our district-wide choral program in January 2024.

🚩COLORGUARD

Join the NEW Lowell Middle School Colorguard at the STEM Academy! Colorguard is a team of students who perform choreographed dances and routines with various equipment like flags or poles to enhance and interpret the music of a marching band or drum and bugle corps show. Students who participate also compete in a color guard competition throughout the school year. *This program is held on Monday and Wednesday from 2:30pm - 5:00pm at the STEM Academy. 🎶DANCE

Students enrolled in this program will be introduced to dance in a variety of styles such as tap, ballet, jazz, modern, hiphop and dance unique to each students culture.

💃SHOW CHOIR

Students enrolled in this program will be introduced to a combination of singing and choreographed dance routines. This is a performance-based program.

🎭THEATER

Students enrolled in this program will learn the fundamentals of acting such as improvisation, projection, and blocking. They will work together to prepare a theatrical show.

🎨VISUAL ART

Students will learn about a variety of materials and techniques while also learning how to develop their own artistic voices. Students will participate in a series of prompts from painting to sculpture.

🎥DIGITAL/MIXED MEDIA

Students will learn how to use digital media to create film and video productions.

When are classes?

Arts enrichment programs are offered at school. For a specific program please reach out to your school.

How much does it cost?

Afternoons in The Arts is funded by Lowell Public Schools. There is no cost for student participation.

TRANSPORTATION IS NOT PROVIDED.

Does my child need experience?

No experience is necessary and students will learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument in each program.

What is included?

4 Hours of Instruction a Week
Masterclasses, special events & performances
A small meal each day

All students should arrange transportation drop off at 4:00pm and pickup at 6:00pm.
