We all have our favourite adverts, don't we? Here are mine, but beware: this countdown is ridiculously Finnocentric with all the adverts being from Finland, my country of origin and residence. Anyway, let's start!
#10: Fonecta – Child of the Summer (2010)
A humorous advert, with a sudden plot twist. I think it's a pretty funny example of what phone services can help you with.
#9: ZYX – Hardcore Remedy (2013)
Once again, the message is delivered by humour. This advert went viral, and has garnered millions of views on YouTube, with viewers mostly outside of Finland.
#8: Hufvudstadsbladet – Fall in love with a Finno-Swede (1999)
The oldest advert on the list, and the only one I don't remember watching on telly (I wasn't even born back then!). The first half of the list is quite dominated by comedic adverts, and this advert is no exception.
#7: Viking Line – Another Man (2014)
Continuing with comedy – surprise surprise! The acting is brilliant, and pretty plausible – yes, a middle-aged Finnish man would definitely behave like that if he woke up with a hot Swedish lady. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. Extra points for mixing the languages.
#6: Radio Nova – The Voice of Kimmo Vehviläinen (2000s)
You gotta admit, Kimmo Vehviläinen has a pleasant voice. I might have to visit that shop and get my voice changed as well...
#5: Radio Nova – Morning People (2000s)
If an advert in this countdown gets me a copyright strike, it's going to be this one. As much as I like "Morning has Broken", I can't help but think how it'll end up flagging my video. Anyway, a nice voice-over and nice music, complete with some humour, too.
#4: DNA – Datafax (2012)
This advert was insanely popular amongst kids when I was one. Everyone kept singing the song, which was originally made for the advert. Ultimately, they ended up making a long, complete version of the song just because the advert was so popular!
#3: Radio Aalto – Let the Music Do the Talking (2014)
It's just so creatively executed. Nothing but song lyrics – because sometimes the music can do the talking.
#2: UPM – Love Your Forest (2011)
I've loved this advert since I first saw it on television. I absolutely adore the song (which is, by the way, "Mun sydämeni tänne jää" by Katri Helena, a very famous and prestigious singer here in Finland), and the visuals are breathtaking as well. The advert would function as a "Visit Finland" ad as well, because it's just so beautiful.
#1: XZ – Friendship That Lasts (2014)
The song is a new version of "Me ollaan ne" by Kolmas Nainen, and this is also one of the few moments where I think a cover version of a song suits an advert better by the original. The storyline is touching as well, and it's very relatable, too.
