In the summer of 2022, a group of students from Florida Gulf Coast University's Foundations of Civic Engagement class had the opportunity to work alongside the Environmental Education of Lee County School District and Lovers Key State Park staff to create this website for all park visitors to enjoy. Our service based project was aimed to educate park visitors on the local species found in Lovers Key through informational biographies. We created this website and the species biographies as well as creating and posting QR codes for each species at the aquariums, cleaning and maintaining the tanks, feeding the animals, and organizing service learning event for other FGCU students to get involved at the park. In our project to help educate, we hope to reinstate park visitor’s sense of familiarity with their surroundings and motivation to keep our environment clean. We urge you to be mindful of the impact you have on the environment, and as you explore this website there will be ways in which you can help each species we promote!
