Love Island involves a group of contestants, referred to as Islanders, living in isolation from the outside world in a villa, constantly under video surveillance. To survive in the villa the Islanders must be coupled up with another Islander, whether it be for love, friendship or survival, as the overall winning couple receives $100,000. On the first day, the Islanders couple up for the first time based on first impressions, but over the duration of the series, they are forced to "re-couple" where they can choose (or be chosen) to remain in their current couple or swap and change.

Any Islander who remains single after the coupling is eliminated and "dumped" from the island. Islanders can also be eliminated via a public vote during the series. The public can vote for their favorite couple or who they think is the most compatible through the Love Island app available on smartphones. Couples who receive the fewest votes risk being eliminated. Occasionally, twists may occur where the islanders must eliminate each other. During the final week, the public vote for which couple they want to win the series and take home the prize.

The first season of Love Island ran from July 9, 2019, to August 7, 2019. The show was renewed for a second season on August 1, 2019, while the first season was still being broadcast. On January 27, 2021, it was announced that the show was renewed for a third season, this time taking place in Hawaii.[11] On May 13, 2021, it was announced that the third season would premiere on July 7, 2021.[12] On February 23, 2022, the series was renewed for a fourth and fifth season and moved to Peacock in summer 2022. The fourth season took place in California.[14] On November 16, 2023, Peacock renewed the series for a sixth and seventh season.[21]

Love Island opened with a 90-minute premiere on July 9, 2019, and aired every weeknight through August 7, 2019, for a total of 22 episodes in its first season.[22][23] In addition to the CBS broadcasts, the series is simulcast on CTV in Canada,[24] with the second season also airing in Australia on the 9Now streaming platform. In the United Kingdom, it also aired on ITVBe in 2019 then later ITV2 in 2020. ITVBe acquired its third season.[citation needed]

So I started at Season 2, simply because I was big dumb and couldn't figure out who to pick season 1. And OH LAHDY was I hooked. Most the guys were fantastic, and the girls were so.. individual. I loved developing relationships with them. The drama was juicy and fun. I didn't choose to couple with someone else because I felt bad about leaving Bobby, even though I wasn't interested at the time. And yes, I ended with Marisol, because I loved the slow burn of her. It was a fun game that I enjoyed as a perpetually straight seeming bisexual IRL. It wasn't perfect, sometimes I would get confused when something was said that didn't make sense (like it seemed like the wrong name was typed into a dialogue), and lordy I couldn't wait to leave Casa De Amor since the dudes were so underwhelming (although Kasseem grew on me.. far too late). The only thing that ever bugged me was Elisa, she was.. odd. Creepy. But overall I loved it. Even if in the end I get to win no matter what, I felt like my choices mattered. I had regrets, I had things I loved. And I definitely will be replaying it again (I have to have a go with Bobby since he grew on me so much after I abandoned him).

From the start until where I currently am.. I started with "Ooo more hair choices" until I realized I could never get my character to look.. remotely okay. But fine, new design, I'll live (although some of the clothes options are to die for). Then I am told right away "Alright girl, pick your best friend now." Sorry what? I don't.. know them. Sure.. okay. Elladine cause she is thick and cute. Now and forever after, I have a puppy, cause no matter what I do. She loves me. For no reason. But I am not first to pick a guy, and that is great. I think "Hey this may lead to interesting things." Only to find out that, "Yes so btw, this is because you are never allowed to get at them, telling you now." Show.. not tell. Why couldn't I learn these things in the story? Why couldn't I make choices and go through things to develop best friend type relationships like I did with Lottie and Bobby? Why couldn't I learn that I couldn't date these people because I couldn't get to them first, or maybe couldn't hold their interest even if I paired, only for them to not choose me anyways? With Noah, I felt like I had no choice. I wanted to respect Hope (although I want to steal him still another time), but I felt like I couldn't flirt with him because it felt wrong.

Then here comes Rafi and Lily. Lily loves me already and Rafi trynna steal my girl. Okay, that's spicy. Lily is.. okay. Her flirting is apparently completely unnoticed by AJ. But I see Rafi. And I am constantly left with these choices: 1) React really big 2) Reactish I guess and 3) Who cares cause LILY. But.. I don't care about Lily.. so just the first 2. I don't *want* to chose to react big, so I pick to reactish. Jealous, but try to think the best of AJ. I slowly realize that.. it doesn't matter. At all.

Fans of the hit reality dating show "Love Island USA" can rejoice as the highly anticipated fifth season made its debut on Tuesday, July 18 on Peacock, and will continue to air weekly on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT. You can stream it in real time from the Peacock streaming platform.

The show promises to deliver a sizzling summer of love, drama and excitement with a fresh batch of singles ready to find their perfect match. Actress Sarah Hyland hosts, while comedian Iain Stirling returns as the witty narrator.

The picturesque island of Fiji will serve as the romantic backdrop this season, offering the contestants a paradise of palm-fringed beaches and crystal-clear waters. However, it won't be all sunsets and smiles, as the islanders will face challenges designed to test their relationships and endurance, all in the quest for true love.

As the season progresses, new cast members will join and viewers will have a say in who stays and who leaves. The episode also featured moments of romance, including a passionate kiss between Marco and Destiny. In a surprising twist, the couple considered the least compatible decided to give it another shot and formed a "throuple" as the Dairy Queen manager, Bergie, was given a second chance.

On December 17, 2019 it was announced that Caroline Flack would be standing down as host for the sixth season after allegations of assault towards her current boyfriend.[4] On December 20, it was revealed that Laura Whitmore would serve as the new host.[5] On February 15, 2020, it was announced that Flack had been found dead in her flat in London.[6]

On August 22, 2022, Whitmore announced that she would be leaving the show after three seasons, due to scheduling conflicts.[7] On September 30, 2022, it was announced that TV and radio presenter Maya Jama would be replacing Whitmore.[8]
