Background & Experience
Louis H. Miller Jr. was born November 12, 1960 in New York City to Salva and Louis Miller but was raised in Trenton, North Carolina. His upbringing in a household rooted in strong moral values, work ethic, and faith prepared him for a life dedicated to service.
After high school graduation, Louis joined the United States Army, where he ascended through the ranks and retired as an (E8) First Sergeant/Master Sergeant. However he was considered for promotion to Sergeant Major (E9) within the Special Forces community. His distinguished 22-year military career took him across five continents—North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, sphere of influence in fifteen countries, and 19 of the United States—serving in multiple assignments, including a combat tour of Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm (Gulf War). His leadership and contributions earned him numerous awards and decorations.
After retiring from the military in 2000, Louis transitioned into law enforcement, serving as a deputy sheriff in Cumberland County, North Carolina—one of the state's largest counties. In 2009, following his mother's passing, he returned to Jones County, where he deepened his connection to his community. In 2013, he made the most fruitful decision of his life—rededicating his life to Christ at St. Stephen Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, a transformation that continues to guide his leadership and service.
Education & Personal Interests
Louis is a proud graduate of Jones Senior High School (Class of 1979). He pursued higher education at Central Texas College, earning an associate degree in liberal arts, and attended the European Campus of University of Maryland and City College of Chicago. His commitment to public service extended to law enforcement, where he graduated with honors from the Basic Law Enforcement Training at Central Carolina Community College located in Sanford, NC.
Outside of service, his interest/hobbies include parachuting, motorcycle riding, and particularly supporting military and law enforcement communities. He also enjoys long-range target shooting and breeding Rottweilers. He takes great pride in his two beloved dogs, Rock and Midnight.
Family & Community Engagement
Louis is happily married to Charlene Miller, a former U.S. Army veteran. Together, they share six children and eight grandchildren, forming a strong and supportive family unit.
