My moving image work "Delilah and Samson" goes hand in hand with many of my self-portraits and explores beauty standards surrounding hair as well as the relationship between men and women.
I have found that there is a certain societal pressure for women to wear their hair long and to rid themselves of hair in other places such as the legs, armpits, etc., in order to, firstly, be perceived as normal and, secondly, as beautiful.
The decision to cut my long hair was frowned upon by many men in my life, so I decided to film a man cutting it. I wanted it to be portrayed as a reversal of the tale of Samson and Delilah, so that a man rids me of my power, my hair and it's beauty.
