LOUDNESS - My first taste of being involved in "bookings"
Taken from a Facebook post
-
Before I was offered L'Amour in Brooklyn, I did 4 months at L'Amour East in Queens and one night I played a few songs off a live concert video of the Japanese band Loudness (Live-Loud-Alive: Loudness in Tokyo) to kill time early on.
The video: https://youtu.be/9S3v-m7io7A?si=IbXw92U7uVhiHPlb
It's an awesome live video
At the time Loudness performed with Japanese lyrics.
I see George Parente in the middle of the floor watching intensely and he comes up to the booth and ask me who they were.
I said Loudness from Japan.
He told me they were just offered Loudness and were turning them down because they never heard of them.
I explained he should rethink that and he asked me "If you had a few weeks to promote them in Brooklyn (I knew I was offered to take over Brooklyn in a few weeks), how many people do you think they would do?"
I gave him a number of "at least 2000" and he said " I hope you are right and booked them"
George told his brother Mike and Mike thought we were both insane
I begin working Brooklyn and Mike sees me and says, "you really think 2000 ch*nks are taking the subway from Chinatown?"
I took it in and realized how insanely funny that was. I had immediate visions of 2000 people lining up at the Grand Street station in Chinatown lol.
I explained that they were Japanese and that their fan base was not located in Chinatown.
He said we never heard of them.
That is why I was there
That weekend Loudness did over 2000 people, Mike said "Holy shit, you were right", Rich Sanders the booking agent introduced himself to me and next week I was in booking meetings.
In mafia terms, I was now a "made man"
At the weekly meeting Mike said "I still can't believe those ch*nks drew so many people"
Mike was legit one of the funniest people I knew, and he drove me insane, but we made it work.
RIP Mike
