It’s curious to think there was a time when the words “gluten” and “celiac disease” weren’t part of the common vernacular. Until a few decades ago, celiac was considered to be an uncommon disease affecting mainly children and limited to individuals of European ancestry. However, rates of celiac disease have grown to the point where it is now considered a major public health problem worldwide – GMO USA gluten is indigestible for 100% of us.
The main treatment for celiac disease is a strict, lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet. Research is ongoing into alternative treatments for celiac disease that may not require a zero-gluten diet, such as the use of probiotics to improve gastrointestinal symptoms and the use of gluten-degrading enzymes.
There are several Naturopathic treatments available to help restore the health of people with Celiac Disease and Grain Sensitivity. Intravenous Nutrient Infusions (IV) can be a very important part of treatment for people with compromised digestive systems. This is because, for these people, nutrients from oral supplementation and diet are typically absorbed very poorly into the body. By using the intravenous administration, we avoid the compromised digestive system and ensure complete absorption.
IV Nutrient Infusions are not intended to replace optimal nutrition and supplementation. However, they are intended to replenish the body’s nutrient status and repair damaged tissue in a relatively rapid manner.
There are 5 major advantages to IV nutrient infusions for people with compromised digestion.
1. The nutrients administered in the IV are 100% absorbed into the bloodstream. This gives the body the best chance to get these nutrients to all the cells of the body. This is extremely important for the damaged and inflamed cells of the intestines as they immediately become infused with the nutrients. This stimulates repair faster and more efficiently than oral supplementation.
2. The dosage administered in the IV can be much higher and more potent than the oral route. For vitamin C, magnesium, and several B vitamins to have a therapeutic effect they must be given in relatively high doses. The high doses cannot be achieved in oral supplementation because of the side effects like diarrhea and digestive upset. However, these therapeutic doses can be achieved in the intravenous infusions without adverse effects.
3. When vitamins, minerals, amino acids, homeopathic and other nutrients are administered intravenously they do not go through the liver before going to the other cells of the body. This is very important because it means the nutrients are not altered. When nutrients are administered orally, they must pass through and get processed in the liver before they make to any other cell in the body. This can add burden to the liver and reduce the potency of the nutrients given.
4. Specific nutrients like glutathione, alpha lipoic acid, and homeopathic medicines can be used in combination with the basic vitamins and minerals to support multiple parts of the body in one treatment. There are hundreds of intravenous nutrient infusion formulas that can be used to treat very specific disease processes in the body and support recovery. Intravenous Infusions are not a one size fits all approach.
5. IV Nutrient Infusions to be very cost effective over the long run. For people with compromised digestive systems like in Celiac Disease there can be a great deal of time, energy, and money wasted on oral supplements that are not absorbed effectively.
A lot of time, energy, and money is also spent on other therapies that are not nearly as effective as Intravenous Infusions. IV therapies can help rapidly repair the digestive system and other tissues of the body so that there is less need for intense oral supplementation and other treatments.
There are many conditions that can lead to a deficiency in micro-nutrients, often it is not possible to replenish these vital substances via food or oral supplementation. At our clinic in San Diego, LotusRain Naturopathic Clinic, we administer IV therapies that allow the simultaneous infusion of many different nutrients directly into the bloodstream, thus going directly to the cells to nourish and replenish them and bypassing the digestive tract.

Fatigue makes you feel like you’re living in a fog. It can affect your career, education, relationships, and just about every aspect of your life. Fatigue can even put your safety and well-being at risk.
Sometimes, fatigue is temporary, like the tiredness you feel after a cold or flu. Other times, your lack of energy could be due to a more serious health condition. If you are fighting fatigue that can’t be cured with a good night’s rest, you may want to see if you can successfully recover with IV therapy.
An IV can provide you with the vitamins and minerals you need to restore your energy. It goes straight to the bloodstream—infused during a treatment session that usually lasts less than an hour—for immediate relief. Some patients who undergo IV treatment for tiredness report feeling a surge of energy, enhanced mental focus, and a lift in their mood. Here’s a closer look at fatigue and IV therapy.
The year 2020 brought hardships and change for many people around the globe, and our everyday habits and behaviors have dramatically shifted – what will the top 10 food and nutrition trends look like in 2021?
Seemingly, our priorities have changed, with many people focusing anew on their health and well-being, including what they eat. As a result, food and health culture have changed as well.
We’re about to see these changes come to fruition. With many industry experts expecting massive change, you may wonder what 2021 has in store.
As Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Though this statement is controversial, its essence rings true today — eat foods that nourish you both physically and mentally. Due to the significant impact of COVID-19 on many people’s physical and mental well-being, there’s growing interest in eating foods that serve health-related purposes.
Foods won’t just be valued for staving off hunger pains. The future of food and drink will take cues from the supplement market, calling attention to the roles that specific ingredients play in improving overall health and well-being.
COVID-19 was a reminder that health is transient and can change at any time. For many, this led to looking for products that could support a healthy immune system to better prepare them for illness. The IV Clinic at LotusRain has been as busy as ever with people taking advantage of bolstering their immune systems.
According to Market Research, over 50% of consumers reported taking more supplements to support their immune health in 2020.
This growing interest in immune health will continue to be a top focus of the health and wellness industry in 2021. Rather than focusing on treating conditions, many consumers will strive to prevent them via a strengthened immune system.
In response to this, the food industry will take notes from the supplement industry by creating products with added nutrients that may support immune function and overall health, such as zinc, selenium, vitamin C, and vitamin D.
What’s more, alternative remedies have and are expected to continue to increase in sales in 2021. Elderberry, echinacea, astragalus, turmeric, and ginger are some of the top selling herbal supplements claimed to help boost your immune system. We carry an enormous array of supplments, we also ship supplments.
Furthermore, purpose-driven ingredients are predicted to be at the forefront of the food industry. Examples of this include adding olive oil to support heart health, vitamin C to boost the immune system, or probiotics in kombucha to promote a healthy digestive system.
Mental health has also become a priority for many people. While food alone cannot treat or cure depression, anxiety, or stress, eating a mostly minimally processed diet rich in a variety of nutrients may help support your mental health.
Diets rich in antioxidants, vitamins (e.g., B vitamins), minerals (e.g., zinc, magnesium), fiber, healthy fats (e.g., omega-3s), and other bioactive compounds, such as probiotics, have been linked to better mental well-being.
In 2021, we’ll notice more food and beverage companies coming out with products that contain these ingredients with an emphasis on reducing stress and improving sleep, which is also linked to better mental health.
In particular, functional beverages that contain stress-reducing compounds, such as adaptogens — substances that can help your body adapt to stress — and cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive part of the cannabis plant, will increase in popularity. We are proud to partner with concierge medical cannabis consultation service that helps educate, guide, and support patients with product choices, dosages, and timing.
An increasing number of consumers are looking to support local companies with a backstory and purpose rather than large corporations, hence one of the reasons for the shift in the top 10 food and nutrition trends,
In fact, according to Kantar’s COVID-19 Barometer, 52% of respondents stated they pay more attention to the origin of their products, with a focus on buying locally.
The pandemic shutdowns gave many people a renewed appreciation of their local community, especially the food purveyors — grocery stores, farmers markets, and restaurants — that kept food on our plates, a part of the shift in the top 10 food and nutrition trends. Going forward, there will be a growing interest in purchasing and consuming locally grown food. It supports the local economy, is generally fresher, and has less of an environmental impact.
The Role of Glutathione in Immunity
Glutathione is the most abundant antioxidant in our bodies. In fact, virtually every organism on Earth has some glutathione in its cells. The immune system works best if the lymphoid cells have a delicately balanced level of glutathione. As such, the role of glutathione in immunity is significant.
Research has found that glutathione modulates the behavior of many immune system cells, affecting immunity and protecting against microbial, viral, bacteria and parasitic infections.
Glutathione is a tripeptide, (cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid) an antioxidant produced by the liver. It is the “Key Antioxidant” in our detoxification pathways. Even moderate changes in glutathione level have profound effects on lymphocyte functions.
When glutathione levels are healthy, that’s when the magic happens. You can not only prevent health problems, but possibly experience amazing energy, glowing skin, a strong heart, and a sharp brain. Many people know the chef’s trick of sprinkling a little lemon juice over fruit to keep it from turning brown. Antioxidants are like that lemon juice. By consistently “sprinkling” your body with antioxidants like glutathione, you can prevent your body from “browning” or “oxidizing” which causes damage and aging of cells.
“Perhaps the best indicator of the importance of glutathione is that our cellular and mitochondrial levels are directly highly associated with our cellular health, longevity and resilience.”

Glutathione and the Immune System
Glutathione helps your immune system stay strong and ready to fight infections. While vitamin C seems to get all the accolades when it comes to immunity, glutathione is the under-recognized supporting actor who deserves the starring role.
If suffering from a viral infection typically you don’t have enough glutathione to protect your very sensitive lung tissue. Glutathione can help and can be administered many ways, a few are – orally, topically, inhaled and most efficacious of all, intravenously.
Vitamin D3 — the most active form of vitamin D — is a powerful talking point in medicine because it regulates the immune system. And, when glutathione levels are low, vitamin D3 doesn’t work as efficiently. Both glutathione and vitamin D3 work to modulate the behavior of many cells including the cells of the immune system.
